Is our first dance song too sad?

C&S, on March 13, 2015 at 6:33 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

I have always wanted one of the following two songs as our first dance song:

Kissing You - Des'ree

These Arms of Mine - Otis Redding

I love them, they're gorgeous songs with a really classic feel to them. But now that I've listened to both songs many times, I think they both might be too sad! It seems they're both about someone that you want but can't have.

What do you guys think? Not the right mood for a first dance?

If you don't like them, do you have any suggestions? An older, classic sounding song is what I'm going for.

    My suggestions are:

    "As," Stevie Wonder

    "Better Together," Jack Johnson

"Can't Help Falling In Love," Elvis Presley

I love "These Arms of Mine"

How old are you thinking? Because what is old to you may not be for me Smiley smile

"The Way You Look Tonight" (Frank Sinatra) comes to mind or "L-O-V-E" by Nat King Cole

Amazing suggestions so far! I guess that means you guys agree my first two are too sad?

@Tina The older the better! Love your suggestions.

I love "These Arms of Mine" and don't think it's too sad at all. I'm also a big Otis Redding fan and right now I'm trying to sell FH on the idea of dancing to "That's How Strong My Love Is" since he already nixed my first choice. The song is a harder decision than I thought lol

I love "That's How Strong My Love Is" - my Dad and I may use it....not sure though. FH and I are having a tricky time with our first dance too...the songs we love are more upbeat than I would pick for a first dance song or too risqué (i.e. "Let's Get it On", Marvin Gaye) - LOL. As an Otis Redding fan, I think 'These Arms of Mine' would be a really nice first dance. Sinatra, Presley also good suggestions.

"At Last" by Etta James, if you decide not to use your first choices. But honestly I don't think there's anything wrong with having either of those two. If they are meaningful, that's all that matters.
