Is one year enough time to plan?

My fiancé and I just got engaged about a week ago after 4 and half years together and I obviously jumped right into planning mode! We are a little at odds over possible wedding dates. If I could, I would get married by the end of this year, but my fiancé (probably wisely) nixed that idea given that we are completely on our own budget wise as my parents are not helping - so next year it is.
I’m feeling like we could pull everything together by the end of May 2020, given that neither of us wants a big extravagant wedding. My fiancé though wants to push it until Sept/Oct of 2020, which to me feels entirely too far away, mostly because I have been yearning to be a mom for over a year now (it’s definitely gotten worse in the last 6 months) but he’s been pretty set on not having kids until we are “settled.” So to me - pushing back the wedding means pushing back mom-life too.
Logically I know that pushing it back will give us more time to plan/save, but at the same time I think why push it back if we can do it in a year?
Looking for insight from anyone who has planned their wedding in a year or less..
Thanks in advance!

I live in Utah and these kiddos here plan their weddings in 2 months. Granted, they just go to the Mormon temple, then have a backyard reception without alcohol or anything fun. Sometimes it's just a dessert bar and no actual meal.

For us we had to push ours back to fall 2020 to be able to afford it. First step definitely is budgeting - and then deciding how you want to pay for it. I've put down at least $5000 this month in deposits so you need to have money up front. After that you can plan a wedding in a few months if you wanted to. Just depends on how you want to pay for it. If it's with savings you might have to take your fiance's suggesting and push it back. If you are putting it on credit (never advised) then you can plan a wedding with short notice. Just remember to be smart in your decisions because once you start a family you'll need as much savings as possible. Good luck. :-)

If money is your biggest concern, I agree with a previous poster - determine how much you can realistically contribute to a wedding fund each month and how much you want to spend on your wedding, and that should give you a pretty clear time frame. Weddings can very easily be planned in a year or less - ours will be approx. 5 months after our engagement, but both sets of parents are also contributing to our wedding fund, otherwise we'd be having to wait much longer or just head to the courthouse!

A 1 month engagement is enough time as long as you have the cash to put out. We are having an 11 month engagement and we are down to 4 months. It's given us enough time to save for the venue, cake, church, photographer... Etc... I think 1 year is perfect. Planning mode is in our nature no matter how far away your wedding is.

    Good luck!
