Is my ring too loose? Stressed :(

Kristin, on June 12, 2012 at 5:19 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

I know this is weird... but can a few of you explain how your ring fits? I can't tell if mine if fitting properly.

I have already gotten mine sized down once, but I still think it could be too loose. It doesn't slide off my finger or over the knuckle, but it does slide between where it should sit and the knuckle.

Should I be worried?

Does it always fit like that? Your fingers swell and shrink depending on how hot it is. Mine is loose like that when my fingers are small, but when my fingers are bigger its tighter.

I think if it is only like that sometimes, and it won't slide off when it gets wet, your fine. But if it's always that loose, or if it comes off when wet (mine I could shake off before I had it sized down.) You should probably get it tightened.

Nope, mine fits the same way. It fits me perfect during summer but when I am cold it still spins.

Does it come off when you're washing your hands? If you shook your hand really hard, does it come off?

The fit changes depending on the season, but if it doesn't go over your knuckle, you should be OK.

If your finger is a lot smaller than your knuckle, you have a couple of options.

My diamond kept slipping to the side (towards my pinky). A jeweler put in a little flat piece of metal attached at only one end -- like a diving board. As I slid the ring over my knuckle, it flattened down. Then it popped back up to fit snugly against my finger.

When that eventually broke, a jeweler put 2 little nubs on the inside of the shank opposite the stone. They also help to keep the ring from turning.

I know how this feels! Mine fits basicly the same way, I always walk with my pinky bended, so I can feel where the ring is, and make sure it does not slide. Smiley laugh

Is this your e-ring or wedding band? Because you can get the other one even smaller, and wear it on top. If you are too worried, though, get is sized down even more.

I have noticed my ring fits differently on certain days. I guess it has to do with the temperature. Some days it feels loose and other just fine.

I haven't tried to wash my hands. I have not worn it for long periods of time yet so I don't know if it's always like this or not...

I guess I'll try to wear it tomorrow and see how it feels?

Will sizing it down cause damage from too much sizing? It's already been sized down twice.

I used to work for Zales, and I would sometime recommend to girls that they buy a plastic ring guard from Claires, They don't scratch rings the way that metal guards do, the are cheaper, and I personally think they are more comfortable. Then in the summer when the fit is good you can take it off.

I was told by a Zales associate that if you can slide it off without some serious force, then it's too loose. I might be biased, though. My beautiful engagement ring ended up down the tub drain because I didn't size it down properly after losing weight.

The plastic guards are great to use..my knuckles are bigger than where my ring goes so i need the bigger size to get a ring on , walmart or meijers has the plastic pieces for about $4.00 for package of 6 various sizes... I have always used them they are great..
