Is my dress bust too big?

Megan, on April 16, 2019 at 2:50 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5
I had to purchase a dress for my waist size (8) and have the bust and hips taken in. The woman I went to for alterations did a phenomenal job on everything except the bust, which was far too big. She “doesn’t like the bust to be too tight” but even she could tell she needed to do more work to take it in. When I went to pick it up, it still was too big - she added boning and took it in a bit more. Now, she won’t take it anymore - lest it be “too tight” - but I have space in the bust still and think it looks a little bunchy. With >3 weeks until my wedding, do you think I should take it to another seamstress to get a second opinion? How do you think it looks? Is this normal? Wondering if I am overreacting or if I should try to make sure it’s perfect!

Yes, I would take it to another seamstress for a second opinion. A couple of weeks is plenty of time for them to do something like this,

Yes, I would also get a second opinion. It can't hurt to talk to someone, right? And I wouldn't like that fit either. Maybe it needs some fuller cups inserted to fill up the gap.

Thank you ladies! I did take it to someone else and am going to have to pay more than the original alterations - the new seamstress pointed out that the hem and bustle are too long too and she's totally right Smiley cry But it's worth it for it to fit perfectly in the end!

And ugh, of course I meant < 3 weeks (not >3) before the wedding. By some stroke of magic this woman is able to fit me in Smiley heart

I was going to suggest a strappless bra that adds a size or 2 in the chest

I'm not a seamstress, but personally, i think it looks a little too loose. not noticeably so, but enough that it would bother me. if your current seamstress doesn't want to do it, you may have to look for another seamstress, but you should definitely listen to your gut and do whatever feels right to you. your dress is gorgeous, by the way. what's the style/brand called? it looks like my dream dress. Thank you!! I ended up getting it re-altered and it fit beautifully (see photo!)

The dress is Amy Kuschel’s Bluebell ... it cost a bit more than I had originally thought I would spend but it was such a beautiful dress that I would buy it again.
