Is makeup a must?

Nicole, on August 11, 2017 at 12:21 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

So I don't wear makeup unless I'm going out, and even that is minimal. Just mascara and a little color on my lips. Should I really even wear makeup on my big day, if so what type of "look" should I even go for? I'm not familiar with types of looks and don't want to go to someone for my makeup (if I decide to) and not know what to ask for.

Pretty silly question, I know!

Yes, makeup is a must! If you don't wear any you can look VERY washed out in photos.

Try searching "natural wedding makeup" on google or pinterest and find a few styles you like.

Makeup is a must for the professional wedding photos. You want your features to stand out.

I just googled "no makeup wedding photos" and I think what the photos are, are the "no makeup makeup" look, but some were definitely no makeup. Look them up. Show your photographer and maybe ask if you could pay for a mini-bridal shoot so they can play with lighting and see how your face looks in edited photos.

Unless your attendants and VIPs, those who will be photographed next to you, have all agreed to fresh scrubbed faces and a little vaseline on their lips, by comparison, you're going to look washed out in every photo.

Let's settle the issue of wearing make-up at your wedding. If you wear some make-up to go out (even if it's mascara and a little color on your lips), doesn't it make sense to wear make-up on a day that is far more important than "going out"? If you want a natural look, there are countless MUAs who can do that for you -- making your eyes pop, your skin radiate a beautiful glow, and your lips look full and gorgeous (even if the color is neutral).

The short answer is "yes". If you put on some make-up, albeit minimal, when you go out, you owe it to yourself to be as gorgeous and photo-ready as you can be on your wedding day. You don't have to do anything that makes you uncomfortable. If you don't want fake eyelashes, don't wear them. If you don't normally wear a bright colored lip and are uncomfortable with the idea, then don't feel pressured to go there. Google "natural wedding makeup" and add your hair, skin, and eye colors to the search. You'll probably find something you love.

Your face is a canvas. Let an artist use it to create a masterpiece.

Absolutely! I don't even own a lipstick but I think makeup is so important for a big day like your wedding. Go with natural makeup. Any MUA that's remotely decent should be able to achieve this. I had it minus dramatic eye and I felt like a princess.

If you are comfortable without wearing makeup then I say you don't need it. Be yourself and have fun with that. However, since your wedding date is in october you could go with a minimalistic natural look.

It's definitely not a must, but you will look better in photos. I'd just schedule a make up trial and explain that you normally don't wear a lot of makeup. The MUA will know what to do.

I don't think it is a must but you may look better.

One thing to think about is:

    1) What do you want to look like in photographs? Do you like the way you look with even natural looking maekup?

    2) Do you know how you will look compared to other guests? You may look very different because you are not wearing make up

I never wear make up but will be for the wedding. Its a special day and why not go all out? You can definitely achieve a natural look with make up.

I personally never wear makeup (I've only worn makeup for my prom years ago and my engagement photos) and I would absolutely say makeup is a must for your wedding. It helps define your features and it makes photos turn out beautifully.

It is a must. Photography has progressed to a point where you'll honestly disappear if you don't have some. A good MUA will be able to make you look just like you only a little more intense.

Yes definitely wear makeup, just ask your MUA for a natural look. Try and find some pics online that you like to show them, but any good MUA has had plenty of brides want a natural look and should be able to execute it beautifully.

It is not a silly question! I think you should pump up your normal look, mainly for the pictures. Controversial opinion, I don't wear foundation or any sort of base all-over makeup in my day-to-day life and I didn't on my wedding day either. However, even though I don't wear a lot of makeup normally, I still went with a dark lipstick and dark eye makeup (I chose brown tones so it wasn't too harsh on my pale face, but I did use a lot of it) to help me stand up to photos. I was happy with my compromise, and I'd recommend that you try a few looks and take photos of them in different lights to try things out - that technique is how I got my sister who never wears any makeup ever to let me give her nice bold eye makeup on her wedding day!

Absolutely. Especially on your wedding day. You'll look so washed out in photos without it, unfortunately. You deserve to be pampered on your wedding day!

I've had several friends who got married without makeup. Their photos were fine. I'm a no makeup girl and I can't imagine being bothered with stuff on my face on the big day. This is of course an unpopular route Smiley smile
