Is it weird to have a DJ at a restaurant reception?

Mrs. DeNigris, on December 17, 2016 at 12:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

We are planning on renting out a local restaurant for our wedding reception in order to save some money (plus they have really good food).

They have a dance floor to use for free if we want to, but is it weird to have a DJ for a restaurant reception?

My parents keep saying that it's kind of out of place to have a DJ since it's not at a "traditional" venue, like a country club.

We are having ~75 people and I want people to stay after dinner and have fun!

What do you guys think?

Not at all! Especially if there is room for dancing, go for it!

I don't think it's weird! They have a dance floor, so why not?

Not at all, if that's the vibe you want! We do lots of restaurants and most of them have dj's if they don't have background jazz.

It would be weird if you weren't renting out the whole restaurant. I'm assuming other diners won't be in the building, so go for it!

If they have a dance floor I don't think it is weird at all. My reception is at a restaurant but it is in a small private room and the rest of the restaurant is open for business so a DJ isn't an option. 75 people is a decent amount too so it seems like a good idea. I have less than 30 for my wedding.

How would you use the dance floor without a dj?

In Orlando, there are many restaurants that have receptions. I have DJ'ed many, whether they are in a private room at the restaurant or if the couple buys out the entire building. Go for it!

Not true. Some restaurants in my area have DJs just because.
