Is it unusual to do more than one hotel room block?

vghjfcxgxfgdh, on February 23, 2017 at 4:47 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 19

I got quotes from two different hotels in the area of my wedding. Both are fairly close to the venue. One is a Marriott and is the cheaper option. The second is a La Quinta and is $20 more per night. The La Quinta is brand new to the area as of last year, so it looks pretty nice on the inside. Both have free breakfast and Wifi. I'm considering making two small blocks of 10 rooms each and giving our guests the option to choose between the "cheaper" and "more expensive" hotel. I would do a courtesy block so that I don't have to put any money down. Is it unusual to hotel blocks at two hotels, or is one good enough? Thanks in advance!

I haven't done it yet, but when I've looked into it, most people suggest having the two options.

We blocked off rooms at two different hotels to give our guests that option that works best for their budget!

I don't think it's unusual, it's always nice to have options

I considered doing two for the reason you mention above, but both would not have been courtesy blocks and I would be on the hook for a certain percentage. I needed at least 50 rooms so I opted for the lowest cost hotel that was the nicest (Marriott). It didn't help that it's July 4 weekend (intentional) and wooden boat show weekened (unintentional). We also would have needed extra shuttles, as none of the hotel options were walking distance to the venue.

If you can do two I think it's awesome - are you providing transportation from both?

Nope, not unusual at all. It's good to have options for your guests. I have blocks at 2 hotels, but I've seen couples do 3.

We are doing 2 blocks but only because we couldn't get enough rooms at 1 hotel

We only made a black at the most reasonable price hotel we could find that was close to the hotel. Did a courtesy block and booked 20 rooms just in case.

We're having a block of 10 rooms at just 1 hotel for 40 guests. I might add more since we're all oot.....

Options are great! Most of the weddings we've been to lately have blocked two hotels of differing price points

We have a few different hotels blocked at varying prices, it's not unusual at all.

I wasn't able to do blocks at multiple hotels, since my wedding falls during local colleges' graduation weekend. (I actually had a really hard time getting a block at all...) But, if it had been another weekend, I would have tried to do 2-3 options at various price ranges.

I have 3 hotel blocks actually, because the hotels are smaller and all of my guests are traveling!

We did that at my sisters. People do like variety! Especially when they may get hotel points at one but not the other. Since you don't have to put money down I'd say go for it!

I'd do two, so that guests can choose what is in their budget.

We have 2 options: a cheaper one farther from the venue (but closest to our apartment and where I actually work) and one a little more expensive closer to the venue that me and my girls will stay the night before and FH and I will stay the night of.

2 options is a great idea, especially if you aren't sure how many people will need rooms.
