Is it too soon to try on wedding dresses?

Casey, on April 29, 2018 at 5:41 AM Posted in Planning 0 19
Okay, so my wedding is Oct 6,2019. My FH and I have booked the venue, photographer, and DJ. What should my next step be? I have been looking at wedding dresses online and scrolling through Pinterest, but is it too early to actually try on some dresses? I don’t want to rush through this process because it’s so much fun, but it’s also exciting and hard to stop planning LOL!

Its not to early to begin looking at dresses. You have a right to be excited. Go ahead and look at dresses you have a lot already done. Good luck. You deserve to have some fun hun

It's a bit early to purchase but looking and getting an idea of what you like would be fine. The biggest concern buying early is seeing new styles as they become available. If you are able to make a choice a d then not look at anything else then you could buy earlier. If you tend to change your mind seven times before setting on something, I'd wait until nine or ten months before to purchase.

Another option is to buy from a company like BHLDN (Anthropology's wedding line). BHLDN stocks dresses from various designers and ships them out quickly. My daughter purchased her dress from one of the brick and mortar stores one a Monday. Thursday she had her dress delivered. They allow for returns and exchanges which is unheard of in the bridal world. BHLDN.com

Not too early to start the process. I would start looking and see what you like style wise and what you don’t. Then you can take your time focusing on what you truly want without being overwhelmed.

It's a bit early to buy but you can look online and check out boutique stores so you can have an idea of what style you want. In the meantime you can shop around for a hair and makeup artist if you are planning on using one. Some of them are very popular and you will need at least a year in advance to get them. I'm getting married in June 2019 and already booked mine because I've used her before and I wanted her. I didn't want the risk of not having her.

I bought my dress one month after getting engaged (engaged summer 2017, planing fall 2018 wedding). I went in telling myself i would not get a dress and that that appointment was simply just to get an idea of what i like and don’t like in a wedding dress. Sure enough, i tried on a dress that i did not want to take off and the tears started 🤷🏼‍♀️ When you know, you know! For your first appointment, i would just have an open mind and make sure the consultant knows exactly what you want in a dress and budget

I’m getting married September 7, 2019 got engaged December 22,2017 and bought my dress in January.
However I think it depends on the person, some people like to have a work out routine for there wedding, some might have just had a baby etc and in those cases you might want to wait but, I don’t plan to be any bigger or smaller and have been the same size for 4 years. (I’m only 22 so I don’t expect it to change)

I say go for it! If nothing else you know what sizes you’ll like.

I bought my dress almost two years before the wedding. Didn't plan to, but found the absolute perfect dress and nothing else compared. I felt a little silly buying it so far in advance but turns out it's actually a good thing I did--the store (Alfred Angelo) closed like a month after my dress arrived!

You're about a year and a half out and it will likely take a few months for the dress to arrive. Then you can rest easy knowing you have the dress, and you can relax on that front until it's time for alterations. OR if you go and find nothing you like, it means you still have plenty of time to find something,

I purchased my dress 18 months out from my wedding date. I knew what I wanted and did my research beforehand. I came into a boutique showing her the exact dress I was looking at that I knew they had in stock. I tried it on along with a few others just to make sure, and nothing compared. I felt it was made for me and fit the rustic theme for our wedding perfectly! I got a moment by myself while in the dressing room just wearing the dress staring at myself in the mirror. That moment brought me to tears because I knew this was the dress I was going to marry the man of my dreams in. If you have this feeling, then you know! I have zero dress regret and know it’s perfect even from buying so far out :-) don’t let the time scare you if you feel in your heart it’s the right one! Best of luck!

I did the same thing! No regrets and I have my beautiful dress waiting for me. I wasnt a fan with trying the dresses on (it's exhausting!) so this works for me. Got it this month and wedding is July 2019. Waiting for closer to do alterations. Enjoy! 😊

In my case, I looked at dresses, but didn't purchase. When I was ready to purchase the one that I had fallen in love with, the designer (Alfred Angelo) had gone out of business. Falling in love with another dress is like trying to fall in love with another man...you compare everything else you try on to the original one. My advice: if you find "the one," grab it while you can!

I'm getting married October 27th 2019. I'm paying on my dress now. I should have it paid off next month. Once ordered it may not be back till August. I'm happy it will be one thing checked off my list.

Definitely not! I actually purchased mine 1.5 years before. I knew what I wanted and I have never had dress regret. Trying on dressses will help you discover what looks good on you, what feels good and gives you more of an idea about what you actually want. Super fun!! Good luck!

I got engaged Jan 2018 and my wedding is end of May 2019. I took my best friend with me (one of my bridesmaids) and tried on my first dress just 3 weeks after I got engaged. I thought I chose a dress that day but I’ve been several times since, once with my FMIL, and once with my father and that side of the family, and have chosen the dress my father actually picked out for me. I just absolutely fell in love with it but I am waiting til my sister/MOH comes home for the summer from college this May and my mom says we can go buy it (since my mom is paying for my dress as a wedding gift). It’s never too early! It’s all part of the experience.

It's not too early. I bought my dress over a year before we got married. It is so much fun going to try them on.
