Go for it! I don’t know where you are located, but if you have a hard time finding bridal boutiques with ball gowns for you to try, check to see if there are any shops in your area that specialize in quinceanera dresses. They might have some dresses you could try on just to get a feel for the shape

I'm 5"1 and I wore a ballgown style dress for my wedding. I don't see any reason why that would be ridiculous

Oh, I also just thought to add... If you're finding the ballgowns are feeling too big and too long since you're a little shorter... you could always try on some tea length or ballerina length dresses, that are likely to be close to full length on you!

Not ridiculous at all! Try on all kinds. If you love one but it feels too poofy you can have a layer or two of crinoline removed!

That said, I can’t imagine why a ball gown silhouette would be too much, unless perhaps the style for the rest of the wedding didn’t quite match a ball gown choice.
