Is it too early to send Save The Dates?

Olivia, on January 24, 2022 at 11:07 AM Posted in Planning 0 17

Hi everyone!

My fiance and I just booked out venue over the weekend, and I'm very excited so naturally I want to send out Save The Dates immediately. However, my mom (who's across the country) thinks I should wait until mid-March because right now it's too early. I wouldn't even send them out until mid/end of February.

We didn't realize that our wedding is also going to be in the same city as where the largest hot air balloon festival in the world is going to be... and it's the same weekend. I want people to have ample time to find good accommodations. Our wedding is September 2022. Am I in the wrong for wanting to send STD early? I just feel like everything I've talked to my mom about recently she doesn't like.

I think now or even February is a good time to send Save The Dates! They are typically sent 6-8 months in advance, so February would be 7 months ahead of time.

That's what I was thinking but my mom was against it. I don't want to go against my mom on everything but at the same time I'm like "WOMAN you made me this way!" LOL

I agree with you, if there is going to be a large event in the area you are getting married, and you have guests that need to travel, then sending out STDs now is a good idea!

I don’t think it’s too early. We sent ours 8 months out, as many guests are out of state. My brother sent his closer to 12 months out, as he moved to a different state and everyone would have to travel.

We already sent ours for October 2022! Our wedding coordinator said the new standard with COVID is about 10-12 months ahead instead of the traditional 6-8 months!

As everyone has already said, send those STDs! Do what feels right for you! I just also want to say, your mom is just trying to help, but I have a mom like that too. Find your voice for planning your dream wedding! She will likely be a great help, but you also need to be able to say no I want to do it this way! You got this! Just make sure she knows that you appreciate everything she's doing and all of her ideas even if you don't 100% agree. Tell her yea I want something kind of like that but with this instead! I'm getting married this week, and months ago when I talked about making window signs, my mom was like I'm not sure about that... well now they're made, and she loves them!Is it too early to send Save The Dates? 1

6-12 months before the wedding as soon as you book the venue is when they are sent. Your guest list is finalized before you look at venues to make sure they are large enough. Since your date is in September, I would not wait to send them.

Because people see them as cost prohibitive even with the very inexpensive magnets, parents and grandparents and generations beyond have sent them with no difficulty via phone call and word of mouth which are free. Modern times also has the free services of email and text.

I Agree with Michelle, send it Smiley smile Personally think that it will give the guest time to decide. Congratulations and Goodluck!

We sent ours a year out because ours is 4 hours away so wanted to give a lot of heads up to people. Some people plan big vacations a year out too so wanted to make sure everyone knew of our wedding

If you're absolutely sure of your guest list, STD's are usually sent 6-8 months in advance, and invitations 6-8 weeks ahead.

Our wedding is also Sept 2022 and we sent ours out in October 2021. I had sooooo many family and friends asking about when and where it was that I figured it was time to just send out the official date since we already had the information. (We also had a 2 year engagement)

Plus, with COVID and all the delayed weddings, guests were trying to book travel plans and the schedules of important people I wanted at our wedding were filling up much quicker than normal. I'll wait until the standard time to send out formal invites but I feel like you're definitely fine to send out save the dates now.

We also were informed by our 3 different hotels that they were already filling up for our wedding weekend so we're really glad we told guests in advance to book hotels. 1 of our hotels is already full because there is another wedding that same weekend and it's a relatively small area. And the wedding is still 8 months away!

I'm Sept 2022 also, we sent ours out about a year in advance as we're getting married labor day weekend! With COVID and all the delayed weddings, as well as Labor Day being a day a lot of people I know go out of town for I wanted to get on people's calendars as soon as I could.
