Just Said Yes April 2022

Is it tacky to send out save the date right now?

Heathart, on March 31, 2020 at 5:48 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 10
Covid19 is taking over our lives. My fiancé and I live in NYC, many folks we know are directly tragically affected. We are debating whether we should wait on sending our save the date mailing now considering the state of everyone’s lives (folks loosing jobs, getting sick, loosing people, depression etc). The reason we are considering is because we have a lot of financially challenged family and friends who need a head up to plan for our destination wedding. Is this all too tack or would it be something uplifting to look forward to in April 2021??

I would wait until May (if you send more than a year in advance, people could be confused and think it’s April 2020... seriously, it’ll happen more than you think, people don’t read 🤦🏻‍♀️😂) but then in May I think it would be good!

I think it would put a smile on your friends and families faces which we ALL could use a smile!! I would send them in April though, so no one mistakes the years lol!

I think you should send them out. It would give people something to look forward to, and it would keep their mind off what's happening right now even if it's just for a minute.

People need happiness right now!!! I’d just call out that it’s 2021 and I think it’s totally fine to send them now.

I think it might hit a sour note, for all the family and friends who are trying to not lose their homes, jobs, all their savings from several years, to see you not only planning a vacation style wedding, but one that will cost a lot of their money to attend. It comes off as pretty tactless. Wait 5 months. Anyone who would need to save up a year to attend, might get pretty angry you have so little understanding of their predicament that you would send such a thing, now. 5 months from now, things may look better. It is totally unrealistic, I think, to expect people to spend something they would have to pay more than they could save in 6 months, on your wedding, at this time. Early fall will be plenty of notice for next April.

I think I would wait until May. According to the reports this virus will be going on the down side of the slope. I do think it would give people a smile and realize life is still going on and feel normal. Of course, you don’t know what their lives will be like during this time and your card may be lost. I say wait till May.

Our wedding March 13, 2021 and we will be sending our save the dates this week. I wanted them to go out on March 13th, but then things sort of got crazy. I’m hoping it will be uplifting and give people something to look forward to.

The more time and information given the better, send them out as planned. There's life to live inspite of COVID.
