Is it tacky to have a disclaimer about kids?

Elizabeth, on January 17, 2020 at 3:11 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 13

I don't mind having kids at our reception as long as I don't end up being the babysitter....which tends to happen. Is it too tacky to put out a disclaimer? I was thinking something funny like "We are not responsible for any swear words or dirty dancing taught to unsupervised children" I just don't want to offend anyone.

Adults with children know what events like weddings are like. They’ll either be comfortable with their children being around that or they’ll leave them home. I think putting a note is unnecessary and a little condescending.

I agree with this. I also think that the example disclaimer you gave might give people the wrong impression about your wedding.

I agree in leaving it be. I think they'd be well aware of what can happen.

I agree with Amber. That is not a positive description of your wedding.

While I wouldn't send out a disclaimer, as many guests will have likely already attended a wedding and will be able to decide if they want to bring their kids along or not, you could consider having an adult only affair if you feel like that better suits your vision. Just keep this in mind when you are sending out invites if you want to have "The Smith Family" or "Mr and Mrs Smith" Smiley smile

Why on earth would you be expected to be the babysitter at your own wedding?

I wrote on my wedding website FAQ that if we will be partying until late at night so if anyone with small children needs help finding a babysitter let us know!

Under another section i wrote that we will be having a plated dinner and an open bar.

I think most people will decide what is best for them and their family with the information I gave them.

I'm still stuck on the fact that you think people will expect you to be a babysitter at your own wedding? Why do you think that?

I dont necessarily think that it would be expected just that it would happen. The kids tend to flock to me and then it snowballs from there. I dont think anyone does it on purpose.

Unless your venue doesn't allow children or you aren't inviting them, don't say anything. Parents are not as ignorant as people choose to believe.
