Is it tacky if no one can hear your vows at your ceremony?

We are having a beach ceremony and as you can imagine it will be hard to hear. Our coordinator suggested against a mic because in the past they tend to pick up the sound of the wind and ocean more so than our voices. It doesn't really bother me, but I don't want my guests to think I'm tacky!

@Nancy T I was referring to the weddings you officiate, w/o a mic most guests cannot hear correct? What about when you do use a mic? It's an additional $250-$300 so I am trying to see if it is worth the money

To me it would be worth the money. I am going to have a wind issue at my venue as well and all the DJs I spoke with recommended having a handheld mic instead of a wireless one because the wireless ones tend to pick up the wind more than the handheld ones.

She's right, IF you're talking about the minister using a lavalier mic. I deal with wind-noise issues constantly on any outside gig and imagine it would be magnitudes worse on the beach. If you want your vows heard (and they should be), use a wireless, hand-held mic. The pastor can hold it right against your mouth and get sound heard without the awful racket.

I really think you should try to make them be able to hear. I would be super sad if I couldn't hear anything. Smiley sad

Without a mic, the guests usually can not hear the B&G speak, but they can hear me.

If you're having quite a few guests and want them to hear you and FH say your vows, get the mic.

Tacky no, but sad yes. I like to hear vows, and the ceremony gets much more boring when you can't hear anyone.

Practice projecting your voice, so that you're not yelling, but that people can hear you.

A pro can get you a mic with a windscreen. And you need one.

I would DEFINITELY have a microphone, you can get a wind cover for the microphone at any audio shop. its a thin piece of foam that is shaped to fit over the microphone that helps take away wind noise.

If people cant hear, you will have guests either interrupting to tell you they cant hear or completely disconnected.
