Is it rude to send over photo inspo?

Maureen, on February 21, 2021 at 7:37 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10
As a graphic designer in a creative business, if I had a client send over logo inspiration for their business, I wouldn’t mind it at all, to an extent. I’ve also done photoshoots for work as an art director and the photographer, so I know how to step back and let the creatives do the job they were hired for.

With saying that, would it be tacky to send over a few photo inspirations to photographers? I would by no means ask to mimic someone else’s work and also wouldn’t send over way too many pictures, but just maybe send over a few samples of inspo.
Just because I wouldn’t mind it, I was wondering if other photographers would?

Mine actually asked for inspo pics! I did not provide any, but I think most will be very accepting of them!

I don't think it would be rude as long as you don't go overboard. What I did for my photographer was noting our 10 favorite engagement photos. She also did our engagement photos so it was super easy for her to make note to use this posing again for the wedding photos. I also sent her around 10 photos that we liked of other couples who had their wedding at our venue. This was helpful so she knew some specific areas of our venue ahead of time that we wanted to use for pictures.

Hi!! I don’t think it is rude at all! Mine also asked for inspiration pics, talked through our theme and such. I loved her photography style so nothing that would require her style to change, but poses you like I think they appreciate. ❤️❤️❤️

Not at all. Mine asked me to share some insp pictures. I think that’s pretty normal for photographers.

I agree with the others- I think it’s fine. How are they supposed to know unless you show them? I’ve saved so many inspo pics ranging from cakes to couples angles. I don’t want anyone wondering what I’m envisioning.

Nope! I don't think it's rude at all. I could see it if you asked them to edit the photos to look like the inspo pics and that's not their style, that could be rude. But pose ideas, nope.

When did they ask you? Was it closer to the wedding so it was fresh in mind for the wedding, the middle of planning, or when you first signed contracts with them?

After we signed the contracts, but before scheduling our engagement photo session ❤️
