Is it possible to alter this dress?

Maggie, on April 28, 2020 at 1:47 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

I recently ordered this dress online from David's Bridal and absolutely love it! The issue is that right now it would need to be altered in the chest area and I am also planning to lose at least 20-30 lbs before my wedding, which is about 10 months away. I live in NJ so all the stores are closed while the state is in quarantine, so I can't go to speak to someone about alterations. The dress itself is also a markdown style, so I can't get a different size online. My concern is that the top of the dress is made up of so much mesh, without a definitive side seam, that it would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to have it altered to fit. Looking at the attached pictures, does anyone have a guess about alterations? Should I return it and keep searching for a different dress? Thanks!

Pretty much any dress can be altered, it's just a matter of time and cost.

That dress is so pretty! It doesn't look like it needs major alterations. And yes anything can be altered, but more difficult styles may cost more

I agree, doesn't look like major alterations, and things will be up and running when you are able to alter it.

Hi Maggie! Are there buttons or a zipper anywhere on the dress? That would probably be the place where they start taking in fabric!

I would return it if you really think you'll lose that much weight. That could be very expensive and not look right proportion-wise. Especially if you like the smooth look of lace without seems or underlay. I've heard good things about DB exchange/return policies.

Hi Lynnie! The back of the dress (above the waist!) is all mesh with a row of buttons up the back. The bottom, skirt part, has a zipper. The chest area is the part that would need the most altering, I think.
