Is It Okay to Have a “work Wife” or “work Husband"?

The Bride, on June 27, 2019 at 10:01 AM

Because we spend so much of our time at work it's natural to form bonds with our colleagues. But is it okay to have a "work wife" or "work husband" or is it a slippery slope to infidelity?

I just think you can be close to someone you work with without associating them with marriage lol. I don’t think it’s rude or anything, just not something I would ever say.

It's good that your "work husband" and his wife are friendly with your future husband.

I do think the phrase is used very loosely and marriage should be considered more sacred. I am guilty of not giving it as much respect as it deserves.

I have 2 work husbands and my FH has 2 work wifes (different departments). For us, they are just the people we are closest too. They might know a few extra details about our personal lives and we talk or go for drinks outside of work, but I don't see it as anything different than having a close friend of the opposite sex. We trust each other enough and are secure enough in our relationship that it doesn't bother either of us, and if asked, we happily share any messages exchanged... they are usually pretty funny so we typically share them anyway.

Hahaha this conversation is funny!!! I think it depends on the type of job/field... I’m in LE and I have my partner and best friend now. We have been partners for years, we always go to scenes together, we ride together every night, and we workout together and well basically we are always together at work and people say he’s my work husband and I’m his work wife lol... sometimes people even think we’re “together” just because every time they see us we’re together.. we are each other’s bbfs, have gone on double dates, so I think is fine to use that term as long as lines are not crossed.

It's really imperative that the two of you trust each other's "work spouses" and know that it won't become too romantic.

Smiley laugh I knew this topic would make for an interesting discussion. I'm enjoying the varied perspectives and am also learning a bit. I consider my co-teacher to be my "work wife" and my husband is completely okay with it. He's never referred to anyone at work as his "work wife" or "work husband" but if he did I wouldn't be uncomfortable with it.

Not at all. Her co-manager is definitely her work husband. There's just a special bond that often happens between two close co-workers.

I agree I think it's natural and I don't know anyone whose work relationships turned sexual so why not have a "work wife" or "work husband"?

Husband and wife is personal/ intimate title. I don’t believe you should be going around using it on other people. Some people don’t care. Just like “I Love you” Some people go around saying it to their friends while others take it more seriously and do go around telling everyone they love rhem

I agree with this to a certain extent. I'm not personally offended by the terms "work husband" and "work wife" but I do think that it's utilizing those sacred words a little loosely.
