Is it okay to call ahead to ask about available sizes and pricing?

Ally, on August 6, 2019 at 9:32 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

I'm a plus sizes bride. My dress will probably need to be a size 22. There are a few local bridal shops that I'm interested in, but I'm unsure if they have dresses in my size and price range.

Is it appropriate to call ahead and ask what size they carry up to and what their minimum dress prices are? I'd rather not waste my or the shop's time if they having nothing that will work for me.

Absolutely! Some websites will tell you this information but if not, definitely call. I only made appointments at shops that had dresses in my budget.

I am a plus size bride as well. When I called to make my appointment they asked about price, size and style I was looking for so they could have a selection pulled for me. I was concerned about being able to find something as well within my price especially, but they had quite a few for me to choose from and it was a small boutique!

Definitely give them a call! They want you to enjoy your experience as much as you want to enjoy it and if nothing is in your price or size they know you won't enjoy yourself and for them, that = bad publicity & yelp reviews. That being said, don't discount a place because of a name either. I'm a street size 12-14 and I ended up getting my dress at a small, local boutique. I found out later that unlike the rest of the places I visited (3) their sample dresses were all a 10-24, not a 2, 4, or 6.

Absolutely. You want to make sure you don’t waste your time if they don’t have dresses you can try on. Good luck. I’m sure you will find something beautiful!

It's totally appropriate! I called a couple bridal salons to ask about pricing. I think they understand Smiley smile

Definitely call. I am also a plus size bride and if we didn’t have a local exclusively plus size bridal store, I would have called every shop around.

For sure! I regret not calling ahead and asking if they had the dress I wanted to try because I was SO bummed to get there and find out they dont have it. And I'm a bigger girl too so that was a major downer.

We certainly did. That way, the shops that had things in our sizes and price ranges could even pull some things we might want to look at.

I sure did! I wanted them to know my size, budget, and my type of style. The first salon I went to put le into very sparkly traditional ballgown (not my style).

I would 100% call the store and see what sizes they can order. Unless you are buying the actual sample dress the size you try on (to a point) doesn’t matter. I got my dress from a sample store and they only carried 8’s and 10’s and I think an 18 (the sample plus size). I am a dress size 2 and i purchased an 8 that day that i will have sized to fit.

Sample dresses do not come in 2’s and 4’s as one user suggested. They always run bigger so they can either be taken in with those big clips so you can get an idea of what a smaller size would look like on. Or you try a size a little too small and the top doesn’t close and they use extenders. You’ll get the idea of what you will look like and then they will measure you and order your size.
Most places will ask your price range when you confirm your appointment, but if they don’t you should 100% ask before you go.
Good luck! I’m sure you’ll find something fabulous!

Thanks everyone! I figured that asking about the size was okay, but I wasn't sure if it would be rude to ask about price. I'm going to David's Bridal this Saturday, but I was looking at a few local dress shops just in case I didn't find anything I liked at DB.
