Is it bad to only have cake??

A.C., on April 13, 2016 at 4:36 PM Posted in Planning 0 40

I feel like lately it's the standard to have a dessert buffet with a small cake and a variety of cookies, cupcakes, tarts etc. At least at the weddings I've been to lately haha. But I actually really like cake and feel like it's a bummer if the cake is only for the bridal party and not all your guests. lately I've been liking the idea of just having several smaller cakes, all different flavors. That way you still have variety but everyone gets cake! Then my MIL mentioned, "well not everyone likes cake." What do you guys think of this? Would you be disappointed if you went to a wedding and they only had cake, and not a variety of other desserts?

I don't think there is anything wrong with just having one cake!

Forget people who don't like cake, let me have it. I love cake.

I think it's fine. If you were ONLY serving cake at a cake and punch reception I might encourage you to add a few other things, but if you're feeding them, you don't need to accommodate a million different types of dessert preferences. If they like it, good, and if they don't, oh well.

I could care less what kind of dessert someone had. It's your wedding, if you love cake, I think a bunch of different flavor cakes would be awesome! If they don't like cake, they won't eat it.

No, it is perfectly fine to only have cake as dessert! If people don't like cake they can just not eat it. It is served after dinner-so it's not like you're hurting your guests by not offering alternatives.

Besides, the more you spend on other needless frou-frou dessert stuff, the less money you'll have in the budget for cake. Cakes are expensive-they are worth it though.

We are doing only cake but we are having cheesecake bites as well on the buffet. I have also never heard of the guests not being able to eat cake and only the bridal party. That seems strange to me.

We are having a 4 tier cake. Each tier will be a different flavor so there will be a variety. I only expect cake at weddings and I love it. Everyone else can not have dessert if that's their choice.

You can't please everyone. It's your wedding. As long as you and FH are happy with the cake then that's all that matters.

We have a dessert option as part of our food package so we're serving that to our guests and having a small two tier cake. The cake will be cut and put out on a table for anyone that wants it but I don't anticipate tons of people will want it after a 3 course plated dinner. (But what do I know)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with just having wedding cake! Adding other options is great if that's what you want to do and it fits your budget, but it's definitely not necessary.

I dont really like cake, but I wouldnt be upset if I went to a wedding where cake was the only dessert offered- I feel like thats the expectation, actually. I've never heard of only serving cake to the bridal party

Yay! I'm so glad at all the positive responses. Having to choose so much variety stresses me out! The feel of our wedding is more simple and intimate, so I think we're gonna go with just cake. Smiley winking

We are only having cake. I love all sweets so I do enjoy the dessert bars but it wasn't a priority for us. Our favors will be other types of sweets wrapped, so they will have that to choose from.

Most weddings I've been to only had cake! We're having cupcakes, but FH is having cobbler instead of a groom's cake. He's not a huge cake fan, so I told him he could have whatever he wanted! I don't think anyone would be upset if they didn't have 'dessert options'.

Our catering came with desserts and we removed that portion to save money - and also because we wanted to just have cake! Nothing wrong with just wedding cake for dessert!
