Is it bad etiquette to use same photographer?

lalalulu, on April 7, 2019 at 11:29 AM Posted in Planning 0 18
Our good friends got married about a year ago and my fiancé was a groomsman. We loved how their photos turned out so I texted the wife recently if we could use their photographer for our photos. She didn’t respond until the next day but said that it was totally fine and she would love it if we used her because she’s really great, and we could also use them as a reference. Ok great. So we put down the 50% deposit. I just found that it took the husband “some convincing” at first but he’s totally cool with it now. I was really surprised that he would care in the first and told her that we can change photographers if it’s not 100% ok with him. She said to not worry about it but now I’m wondering if this is a big no-no in wedding planning etiquette?

Not at all. I would be flattered if one of my friends loved our pictures so much they wanted to use the same photographer. That's how small businesses work, by word of mouth and referrals.

Nope! I'm using the same photographer that did my brothers wedding and my friend's wedding. I actually got a discount for using them as a referral!

That’s odd that he would need to be convinced... I’d be flattered if a friend loved our photographer! Not like you’re using their same venue or theme or colors (even then I would still be flattered lol but my point is, it’s not even like your weddings will be similar at all from a guest perspective...)

That's petty. It is not bad etiquette to use a photographer someone else has used prior.

I don’t think using the same photographer is bad etiquette or rude. I’m not sure why he wasn’t excited you would be using the same photog if they loved their pics. The only vendor I would probably avoid if my close friends had used them would be the venue. Using a trusted photographer that you know you like a was a referral is a no-brainer for me.

No, I would take it kindly if one of my friends used a photographer that I hired before and had s good experience with.

Go with your gut! If you like this photographer, I see no reason not to use him/her.

I don't think using the same photographer is bad etiquette. I'm using the same photographer that my cousin is using for his wedding, to be honest though I didn't know until I saw their save the dates though. But I would think anyone would be flattered by this not upset.

You are fine your friend most likely has some weird territorial problems the photographer doesn’t belong to him and he has no say in what photographer you use whether it’s the same or different one. If you like that photographer then go for it don’t let anyone make you feel like you shouldn’t go with them unless that couple had s bad experience with the photographer then you might want to hear them out.

I don't see how that would be an issue? That's great business for the photographer!

I don't understand why it would be an issue. That's how businesses grow by others seeing their work and wanting them. And the pictures will obviously be unique to you two and have nothing to do with has already taken place.

One of the first things I did when we started planning?

Contacted our friends who got married a year and a half ago and said, "Who was your DJ? We loved her!"

They were happy to pass on the contact, and that we'd had such a good time at their wedding. If you can't use your friends' weddings as references... right?

We are using the same photographer and DJ as our friends ( MOH and a groomsmen in our wedding). And a friend of mine who is getting married after us is also using the same photographer. Its totally fine. Do you ask someone to use the same grocery store the do? lol I think its a compliment.

Yeah I know what you mean... this photographer has a very unique style so I was thinking maybe the husband didn’t want our photos to come out looking like theirs?

I wouldn't see it to be an issue. We're using the same photographer as FH cousin.

Not bad etiquette in the least, and honestly, this is what vendors are COUNTING on— they live for referrals! And experience is the best way to know how a photographer really is. Also, they’re just friends. It’s not like it’s a sibling where I could at least see the concern of like, parents displaying pictures from their 2 kids’ weddings that were basically indistinguishable (though even then it’s STILL not a big deal). Definitely no breach of etiquette. The husband was the problem haha, glad he got over it! 🤣

Every time a friend got married I literally looked up their photographer's website and prices since I could see firsthand how good of a job they did! Totally think that's a great vendor to get a referral on.
