Is it appropriate for vendors to hand out business cards at the wedding?

I HATE tip cups on the bar. It is so, so tacky, and that is something I'd address with the venue. Most people will tip the bartenders, but it shouldn't be displayed.

The only exception? I had a couple who did a lot of dog rescue, and they had dog bowls on the bar with little signs that said all the 'tips' would go to their local rescue (they took care of the bartenders privately). Loved it!

I don't want any vendor actually handing out cards at our reception. If a guest asks for a card, that's fine, vendors can have some in their pocket. If they want to put some on the escort card / guest book table for guests to see and pick on the way out...and not place them on that table until after everyone has arrived...that is fine...and I don't want them on the cake table. No business cards in any pictures of our cake. If the caterer wants to put some of hers on the corner of one table along the buffet line I could live with that because it's tables that have a lot of things on them so the cards wouldn't stand out like a sore thumb and not really noticeable in pictures either.

I would definitely mention it to the photographer to let then know you found it unprofessional. That seems like something that should have been cleared with you and very wrong. So sorry you had to go through this. Very tacky.

Personally (but we are all different) at the events I cater, I would prefer the guests ask me for referrals. I don't like them promoting themselves at my events. They should use their own

money (as I do) to do their own marketing. I do tell my clients that on some items (like a large

wedding cake) I do outsource different bakeries, however, the bakery staff is never at my events.

I agree! As a caterer, I feel if any of the bride's guests love my food and service, then can just

ask my client for one of my cards. Having a stack of cards on the table looks tacky to me.
