Is handing out save the dates in person too informal?

Amy, on February 22, 2018 at 10:36 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10
I'm not committed to this idea but is it too informal to hand a save the date (in envelope with their names on it) to people you'll see in person as long as you don't do it around others?

It's a great way to cut down on postage but I haven't seen it mentioned. I'd never ever do this with invites but I thought save the dates were an informal way to give people a heads up?

I gave most of my family theirs at Christmas dinner. Saved several stamps.

I think it's fine... they aren't required so I think etiquette is a tad less stringent than invites.

I think that's fine. If you want to save I postage you could always email the save the dates. Just another option if you think it will be awkward to give the save the date in person.

I personally like the whole sending them out instead of email. You can give them in person. As long as they have a copy to hold on too.

My save the date dilemma is that I sent a save the date 1 year and a few month before hand. I heard of people losing it and forgetting about it I recently got a free one and we our less than 6 months I dont know if I should send them. All I paid for was shipping for the photos I was originally getting. I love my old one. But I like that this one has my wedding website on it because it would help for out of town guest. But I don't know if I should send them out.

This is great news! My side will have to travel quite a ways so while I need STDs I wanted to do them as low cost as possible. I think I'll be able to hand out at least half so that'll save some money!

We sent most of ours but my FH handed out save the dates to his band at band practice. The only issue with that was the the drummer never gave it to his girlfriend (who he lives with in the house that band practice takes place in...) so just make sure it's handed to couples together or to the person who is responsible enough to show the other person.

I gave all of my co workers that were invited (only my boss and a small group) the save the dates in person. A few of my friends I gave when we were out and about...all others mailed.

Save the dates by nature are usually informal, so I do not see an issue with handing them out in person.

I handed out some save the dates to family and friends if I saw them this month. The rest are being sent out later this week or next. I actually think hand delivering them makes it special.
