is guest transportation necessary?

Is guest transportation between the hotel and venue necessary and/or expected? The hotel doesn't provide shuttles, but I can definitely make room in the budget for one if needed. I just have no clue what is expected. I haven't been to many weddings where I needed to spend the night in the hotel...

Our hotel is about 20 minutes away from the venue because the venue is kind of in the middle of nowhere. Also, most of our guest list is from out of town since most of our families live all over the country

I've personally never been to a wedding with transportation, but since your location doesn't have uber or lyft I think I would consider it.

We are skipping it since our church is .6 miles from the reception venue, and the hotel shares a parking lot with the reception venue.

We looked into it and most of our guests have said they'll just take taxi or Uber or public transportation because the reception is 15-20 minutes away from ceremony. Its cheaper in Boston to get a couple of Ubers for people than to rent a van or bus.

Thank you for asking this! I've been having that same debate all day. After thinking about it though, I've never minded having to uber or even drive myself to a wedding, even when I was coming in from out of town.

I don't think it's necessary but if you can afford it, go for it

If they can't cab, you need to provide a shuttle. Otherwise except sober guests to be leaving early.

I went back and forth on this so much. Our reception is a couple miles away, just too far to walk but just short enough to make everyone getting cabs seems silly. I opted to just pay for the bus to transport them but I worry that a lot of them will take their own cars anyway. Hopefully if I just tell everyone the bus will pick them up and drop them off they can all just travel together. I think it's more convenient for the guests and if you can work it into your budget go for it.

Well as a responsible adult, I would make arrangements to cab/lyft/uber there and back if I plan on drinking. If those are not possible, then yes, I would provide a shuttle.
