Is anyone else struggling with bridesmaid dresses looking different colors?

Rebecca, on July 2, 2020 at 1:42 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

Ok fellow Brides and Bridesmaids, I'm struggling over here. I chose Chianti for my bridesmaid....has anyone else picked this color or used it in the past? My struggle is that it looks lavendar/lilac indoors but in the sun it is a beautiful pink that I want. Even in the stores well lit fitting room, it looks purple. Has anyone else struggling with this? The left picture is one of my bridesmaids. The other picture is the color I picked out in the store and saw pictures of when I fell in love with the color. Any advice is welcome!!

Yea i think that goes for any kind of dress though - lighting just makes colors appear differently

Definitely a thing for really all items of clothing. Natural light brings out its true color, whereas yellow-ish light distorts that color. I, unfortunately, don't have much advice, but maybe try to pick something very close to that color, but slightly more neutral if you're not happy with how the color is changing? Wishing you the best of luck ❤️

This will probably happen with any dress of any color unfortunately. My light gray bridesmaid dresses ended up looking a bit light purple in some of the pics.

Agree with PPs, this is going to happen with any color depending on the light. Not to mention the first photo is likely edited by the photographer and doesn’t show the true color either.

Have you already tested this dress outside to know for sure the color will look like the photos? If not I’d suggest testing the dress outdoors first. It doesn’t seem like the same color

Yea I literally took these pictures today when I got my sisters dress. I love the outside color but hate the lavender. I guess I just have to be happy that the dress will be the pink I love in the pictures we take outside.

Whoa yeah that’s definitely the color. It’s amazing what a little bit of sunlight can do to a color. I think it looks beautiful either way though.

I definitely understand where you are coming from. My husband insisted on fire engine red bridesmaids dresses whereas I wanted a darker red. The dresses I picked looked fire engine red in the store, but when my sister-in-law received hers it looked more orange. I told her my concern, but at that point it was too late because everyone had already bought their dresses. After getting our wedding photos back, I wish I had gone with a different red like I originally wanted because I think in some of our photos they look orange.

Well you all look amazing and that is a pretty red! I get what you are saying and I only get one day so I want to love my girls dresses. I am right at that time frame where I can still change the color if I need to, so I'm going to take my sisters dress in to the store and see what they say.

I just don't understand how the dress looks so purple but when I picked out the color in the store (you know with indoor lighting) it did not look purple in any way.

Thanks, I wish I had realized that they might look a different color in photos than they did in the store. At least you have time to change colors if you don't like them.

I had the same reservations about DBs Chianti and decided to go with azazies new desert rose since it was a bit more of the burnt rose I was looking for!

Could it be that when you chose the color it was a different fabric than the style of dress you sister is wearing? Sometimes that can impact how a color appears.

I picked Chianti too and have noticed the variance in the color. I’m making sure my bridesmaids select the same material of dress. I noticed in the store that the shade changed with different materials also. Other than that, I’m not going to worry about it because you can’t always control the lighting.

Good to know. I'll look into Azazie. I don't know what I can honestly do anything about it right now just because 3 of them have their dresses and its beyond the 14 day return window.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one. I had the employee check the fabric and they are all chiffon which is what I wanted but then she said there are 2 different chiffons. I was thinking about their bouquets and how I wont be able to put pink in them possible because the dresses look more purple but it will all get figured out.

If you really want to change I’d talk to DB. A lot of places extended their return policies due to COVID

I am definitely going to try! The store manager was not budging when I asked her what my options were.

I think there is a type of flower around the same shade, but my florist said that using a color similar to wine/burgundy and white flowers would be pretty.
