Is anyone else skipping invitations?

Millie, on October 12, 2019 at 11:48 AM Posted in Planning 0 16
I'm still debating but I'm thinking about skipping invitations. It would be another expense. Has anyone else done this? Are wedding invitations expensive? I don't even know where to look.

There are tons of things you can save money on when it comes to wedding planning, even some things that you can skip entirely, the process of actually inviting people to the wedding probably isn't the best thing to cut. Invitations can be as cheap or as expensive as you want them to be. They typically set the tone for the formality of the wedding, so if you're having a more casual wedding, the invitations can be simple and inexpensive. If you're having a formal event, the invitations should match that and could be $5+ each.

I think invitations are needed and important. You can send out electronic invitations to save money, but I personally like having a paper invitation with all the information.

How would it work logistically if you didnt send invites? How would you get RSVPs back?
Invites can be pretty cheap. You can buy templates of Etsy and have them printed at a print shop, Ann's Bridal Bargains has invites for like $1/ea

Sorry for not being clear. RSVPs are being accepted on my wedding website and I was thinking of just inviting people online. You guys have made it clear how cheap invitations actually can be so thank you for that!

By skipping invitations, do you mean skipping a physical paper one?

Would you be inviting through text/FB/paperless post then?

I've had friends who only used electronic invites, and it was fine. But if you have some older fold coming to your wedding, they might appreciate a physical one.

Zazzle has a 15-50% deal right now on invites and theirs start at 61 cents (for a paper invite w/o envelope)

That would be a simple and budget friendly option!

Yes, I meant electronically. I might just go ahead and buy them so people have something to refer to. Thanks!

I used vista print and only paid $35 for 65 invitations for 100 people. I did free electronic save the dates on Paperless Post.

I would only do electronic invites if you’re having a more casual wedding, as the invitation sets the formality of the wedding.

For me I found a template online and printed them on card stock or thick paper and just stuffed them in envelopes I bought. Doesn't need to be fancy

I was going to buy a template and print them ourselves when we were having a big wedding. Now that we're only doing a small elopement (about 15-20 people total) I'm buying blank cards and taking a photo from around where I live (Colorado is beautiful this time of year and I have a nice camera) and I'm going to get the pictures printed and I'll attach them to the cards to send those as invites. It'll mean a lot to most of my guests because it's what my grandmother who passed a few years ago used to do for every card she sent. She was a professional landscape photographer, and it's a way to include her in my wedding day.

How will guests know about your wedding if you don't send invitations?

We used https://www.elegantweddinginvites.com/ after I saw how much laser cut paper invitations were going to cost at Paper Source! They have a variety of invitations, and start as low as 94 cents each. They run sales all the time, atleast 15% off. By using them I saved over $1,000 on my invites in comparison to using Papersource, quoting me $1100 and $1500 on two samples I liked, and I needed 50 invitations, it was too much!

    The caveats are:

    1. You have actually write the verbiage of your invitation there are no standard template for each invitation, RSVP card, and any other cards you want printed. They'll send you a proof within 48 hours, which you approve, and then they'll print it. If you make changes more than twice, or if they didn't quite understand the revisions you requested, and sent you a new proof beyond the 2nd go around, they charge.

    2. You have to assemble the invitations yourself. If they're standard invitations you just stuff the envelope, but any custom bands around the invitation, glitter borders, wax seals, you're on your own.

    3. Samples are not free, and this company is in China so....I had to pay almost $40 to preview 8 samples because of shipping. Still not bad considering the invitation I got would have been $18 each at Papersource without any color selections, and I ended up paying $3 each through them.

    4. They don't address the envelopes to your guests, so if you go through them, order a few extra envelopes in case your printer smudges, need to test out fonts, envelope gets stuck in the printer, etc.
