Is anyone else feeling this way?

Liz, on July 6, 2020 at 7:28 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6
We had planned our big wedding for July 18 this year but obviously COVID had other plans. Initially I was so upset and disappointed having to wait another year for our big wedding and settle for a smaller elopement, but now when I think about the elopement ceremony and the small family BBQ we're having after, I can't help but be totally excited (almost more so than if we had been able to have our big wedding). Has anyone else felt the same?

Oh I feel you! We are doing a mini ceremony at the theatre where we met and then a backyard bbq afterward and I’m so excited I’m wearing jeans cuz I hate dresses and it will just be our immediate family and the wedding party. We didn’t want a big wedding to begin with but the parents and in laws insisted and offered more money to make it big so it got bigger and crazier and I’m so excited to have a small wedding the way I want it. We are trying to save the dress the first dance the toasts speeches etc for next year to still make it special somehow. I know if we did all that at this one I would want to say screw it and cancel, but we would lose so much in vendor deposits that it’s not worth it. I totally feel you, I was bummed about postponing for like a week before I became excited about the little dinky casual backyard theatre wedding I wanted to begin with.

Sorry you had to postpone your big wedding. Though, it sounds like everything is working out for the best for you! I felt similarly. Postponing made me really sad and upset initially, but now that we made the final decision, I feel relief. We now have a fun weekend with friends planned for our original date, which I am really looking forward to. I think it's a good idea to make the best of the day in any way you can. Best wishes for a great day for your elopement ceremony and BBQ!

That's awesome! We are doing a first dance, toasts, and cake at this one because we wanted to still keep some traditional elements to it as well. My MoH is singing our first dance song, but next year it and the music will be totally different.

That’s so cool, my fiancé’s uncle is going to be doing our processional songs on the saxophone. I love when our musically talented people can join in it makes everything so much more special.

I’m so happy you are still happy about it! I see a ton of brides devastated over it. It’s nice to see someone looking on the brighter side of things.

Yay!! I'm so happy you're so excited about your new plans Liz! We've seen so many incredible and intimate weddings come out of the last few months, the current craziness definitely puts your focus back on the love and commitment of your wedding day (and less on the other details). Smiley heart
