Is a shuttle necessary?

Alyssa, on August 2, 2021 at 4:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 14
My partner and I will be having a wedding in October of next year. We are having a smaller ceremony and reception with only 70 peple, and anticipate having our guests book at nearby hotels or Airbnbs as most of them are from out of town. We would maybe get a courtesy room block if it's not expensive, but are not sure if we will.

All this to say, is it okay to just ask guests to Uber or drive our our venue? It's less than 15 minutes from the nearest town, and we were going to Uber ourselves. Would that be thought of as inconsiderate?

When I travel, I rent a car or figure out public transport. I would never assume I was getting transport provided.

It is a nice service if you can afford it, but it's not a necessity. Adults know what they have to do to travel and get back safely.

All depends on the area. We chose to provide a shuttle because our ceremony and reception is in a remote area where Uber and Lyft is not readily available and because the hotel is 30 mins away.

Even if a shuttle were available, H and I would be unlikely to use it, because we like to be able to come and go (though for a wedding it's mostly go, obviously) on our own schedule without having to wait if we're ready to go

I think in this situation, you don't have to. The hotels are fairly close, so guests can figure it out. I've only ever been to one wedding that provided a shuttle, and that was because it took place on a private estate that did not allow Ubers.

Only in areas where there is no parking or taxi service. Many people rent cars when they travel.

I'm with Becky on this one. My FH and I have actually been to a few weddings where a shuttle was provided and we've never taken it. We'd rather leave when we're ready, which doesn't always align with the shuttle schedule.

We're going to look into it and the availability of ubers, but ultimately if it's not something we can fit into our budget, I'm not stressing it. I originally really wanted this, but with everything adding up, who knows if it'll happen.

As long as you live somewhere with easily accessible ubers you don’t have to worry about it.

I always take the provided shuttle. I think because I live in New York City And don’t really drive, I never think to rent a car.

We decided not to do a shuttle for our upcoming wedding. They’re so expensive and although we have hotel blocks at two hotels a lot of guest are staying in other hotels or airbnbs so the shuttle wouldn’t even serve everyone. We will likely do a Lyft code for guest and cap it at our budget.

I didn't know you could do a Lyft code, that's a great idea!
