Longer story: I just went along with what the salesgirl suggested and ordered a size 14 wedding dress. I’m normally a size 4...6 on my bigger days. But I know wedding dresses are sized different and she was the expert, so...
The seamstress asked me why I ordered such a big dress. It was WAY too big. She ended up taking 2 inches off of each side of the structured/corset style top. When I went for my final fitting, I was in the middle of a busy day of work day. I HATE driving downtown Portland and honesty was just done going to these appointments. I was by myself. I took my dress and threw it in my car and went on with my day. When my work day was done I went to my mom’s to give her the dress to store (wedding is 12/29), I tried it on because she hasn’t seen it yet. I told her I needed her opinion on wether or not the skirt is too wide (like, still a size 14) for the top (now much smaller). The first thing she said to me was “honey, you have back cleavage!” 😳😒.So now I’m worried that the skirt is too wide AND I look fat in my dress.
Bottom line: would it be crazy to take my dress to an alteration shop in the suburb I live in and ask to try the dress on and tell me wether or not it actually fits me? I am trying not to just keep spending more and more money (at this point I’m on to this dress over $1900), but I want to feel confident on my wedding day! I’m not sure I do right now.
