Is a seating chart necessary?

Amarriedmann, on July 6, 2017 at 11:16 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

Hi all! I'm new to WW. Was wondering if a seating chart is a must? Expecting about 75 people. No one has beef with anyone else and most guests are the types that have never met a stranger. Is it actually easier for the guests if there's are assigned seats or is this used more for the bride's peace of mind? Thoughts?

Yes, you should have a seating chart. Without one you risk families and couples being separated and just overall chaos. At least assign tables.

Yes unless you want to watch your wedding guests play musical chairs for 20 minutes trying to sort their seats out.

    Please assign seating.

I hate to tell this story again, but I attended a free seated wedding, Every time I got back to the table someone was in the seat I claimed as mine. At one point, there was a woman with a naked baby where I was meant to eat.

I don't think seating charts are necessary, but at least assign tables.

The reason they're so important is because people will end up not sitting with who they want. Like imagine you're going to a brand new movie the day of its opening with 5 of your closest friends. Would you rather go to a theater where it's a free for all and you might not end up together, or a theater with assigned seating when you buy your tickets?

Seating charts are absolutely necessary. You want make sure your VIPs (parents grandparent etc) can see you and are placed close to you. You also don't want people cramming in at one table and moving chairs around. Couples run the risk of being split up because there aren't enough seats at a table together. Assign tables and make your guests experience a pleasant one.

If you have more tables and chairs than guests there should be no need for any of it. Your guests can figure it out and will be just fine! No need for you to stress over a darn seating chart!

Yes, seating charts are a must. You don't have to assign individual seats. Just assign guests to tables.

I've been to a few without assigned seating and it was fine. No fussing over tables. As a couple or group we would go in together and find seating together. I'm not doing seating assignment for my wedding. People can figure it out

Wow! You guys are fast Smiley smile Thanks for the advice. We're having a renewal ceremony so everyone has known each other a long time. You all made some really good points about keeping the chaos to a minimum. As well as seat stealing! @Chris K. Lol!

We didn't have an actual "wedding" the first time, so I'm an excited "Inexperienced veteran". I'll certainly be looking to WW peeps for more guidance!

At first I was not going to do any type of table arrangement, however after being on WW and reading forums on this topic, I totally did it. Not gonna lie, its a pain in the ass, however it's definitely worth it! It's helped me so much with guest planning!

I am doing a seating chart but only giving people a table number, not a specific spot. I have enuf to do planning my wedding besides that, they can figure out which seat they want in their own :-)
