Is a mua worth it?

Gabrielle, on September 6, 2019 at 9:49 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 31
I am SO torn. I want to be pampered and relaxed on my wedding day, but I am also 110% capable of doing my own makeup. There is a girl in town who does a fantastic job doing makeup, and many brides go to her. I am just so torn. :/

It was an obvious choice for me bc I don't do makeup often and like you said, I wanted the full pampered experience! I say if it's in your budget, go for it! Get treated like a queen for the day!

If I could afford i'd I would have mine professionally done. It's not in my budget but I have a long time friend I asked to do it so that I can relax

For me, I'm make up challenged. Couldn't do it if my life depended on it so my cousin will be doing mine and my bridal party. Only you know your skill set and what you want to accomplish. If you can afford it, be pampered!! If it's money that you're more worried about wanting to save, then I would say do it yourself. Sometimes you also just need a break even if it's something you know how to do yourself so what better way to take a break than on your wedding day? Good luck.

If you’re confident at it and you won’t have a lot of other tasks to do like setting up the venue then go for it! I can’t even apply eyeliner, I live in chapstick most days. I need a MUA so I don’t scare somebody.

If I was good at doing makeup I would definitely opt NOT to have a MUA! After a bad experience as a bridesmaid at my friend’s wedding (we all ended up looking like drag queens!) I am now sooooo nervous to hire a MUA for my wedding

I knew right away that I wanted a professional, but that’s because I don’t do my makeup on a daily basis. However, if wedding photography/pictures is a big priority for you, I would strongly encourage a professional because they know how to make it look flawless on camera. Mine told me that brides may need more than they think for it to have the same effect on camera.

In my opinion totally worth it. But I don’t think the makeup I do is good enough for professional wedding pics.

I have gotten my makeup done by wedding Mua in the past. My sister works for a very popular salon and I have done modeling for them.... having my makeup done i realized I don’t like how other people do my makeup. I will have a mua for my bridal party but I will do my own. I would have a trial and see if you like it. You may find that you do your own makeup way better than the professionals.

I mean I’ve spent $170 buying a set of nice makeup at ulta. So to me spending the same amount for someone else to do it and also my hair is worth it.

Did you do your own makeup for the engagement photos? It looks great!

If I had that level of skill, I'd probably save $ and do it myself. If budget isn't an issue, I'd opt for the professional so you can get some pampering!

As much as I love makeup and have been doing my own for years, I really don't wear enough anymore to be remotely confident in knowing what would look good on camera, so hiring a MUA was an easy choice for me.

I say if it's in your budget then go for it! Or maybe if you're worried about money make it a fun girl time and have your bridal party do each other's makeup and one of them can do yours? Just another idea

I was nervous the day of so it was nice to have someone with steady hands do my makeup, and it was nice to just sit back for an hour or so and just chill, no decision making, nothing.

It was relaxing for me as well - and like others I wanted a steady hand to be doing my makeup and I knew I would be shaking.

I don't do my own makeup very often, and when I do it's usually just eyeliner and maybe some lipstick. So for me, it's also an obvious choice. If you're able to do your own makeup, and feel confident and comfortable with the fact that it'll look good, and you'll get exactly what you want, I don't see why you can't save the money you'd spend on a makeup artist. It's not an automatic necessity, especially if it's something you can do on your own. But if it's in your budget and you want to do it just for the pampering, there's nothing wrong with that either. It all really comes down to whether you want to spend the money or not.

I love makeup and am decently skilled at applying it, despite this I chose to go with a MUA.

I liked the idea of a bit if pampering, but the biggest perk for me was that my MUA knows how to make minor tweaks to my makeup so that it appears more clearly in pictures.

It was an obvious choice for me to hire a hair and makeup artist, they just do such a better job and it photographs so much better, and it was so much less stress for me.

I was going to do my own. But then I also wanted to relax and get pampered for once. I was so glad I went with a MUA. I didn't get to do a trial since we were out in Vegas but a good friend was at the same hotel the week before and used her to get her makeup done and it looked great so I knew I was in good hands. I vote go for it!

I've been going back and forth with myself about this also. I definitely am getting my hair done because I live in a messy bun most days. I just can't do hair. I do love makeup though. I feel that I'm pretty good at it and really think I could do my own. I do have plans on going into Sephora and getting a free makeover (because I spend so much money in there I was able to get it for free). I'm going to tell them to do my makeup the way they would do it if they were doing it on my wedding day, and then I'll potentially pick up the products they used and practice a few times at home so I feel super confident on the day. I just don't want to spend the money on something I could do myself.

I totally understand that! I have been struggling with that thought too, because I am more than capable.

My friend is actually in a wedding next month where all the girls are getting their makeup done by the girl I am thinking about hiring, so I will get to see her work firsthand! I think after the wedding next month I will have my answer. Smiley smile
