Is a guestbook really important?

Ugh so I've been arguing with myself if its actually worth it?? My FH doesn't care for it, but if we were to get one it would be more of a journal that people can write their wishes in (like the picture) To me it seems pointless to have people just sign their name, but it would be nice if people...

" and "Best wishes to you both"

FH and I aren't really into a bunch of extra "stuff" at our house so we weren't interested in a guestbook or alternative for that reason. A couple of family members scoffed at us so we compromised (ya know, even though it's our wedding) and are doing wine bottles at every table with a paint pen for people to sign and write a message if they feel compelled to. Then we will take the wine home, drink it, remember our day and recycle the bottle!

I haven’t ever really been into the alternative guest books that people still just sign their name on it. If I wasn’t going to keep a book with everyone’s name what am I going to do with some large piece of decor with names all over it? But that’s me. I’m sentimental and would probably frequency flip through a book of nicely written notes or Polaroid pictures. Books are also easy to store without adding too much to clutter.

Our plan is to have some sort of book with pictures (whether their preprinted of us or polariods of guests not sure) and ask guests to write in it - maybe with some prompts, like PP suggested; maybe they share some advice? Or share their favorite memory of you? Or make some silly prediction? Or their favorite part of your wedding?

We're doing a hybrid scrapbook/polaroid guestbook. I did the scrapbooking myself which was actually really fun! It starts from the beginning of our relationship and goes up until now, which is nice since I have a lot of extended family coming to the wedding who haven't met my FH or don't know him very well, and that way they can kind of see what our relationship is. And then the next section will include pages for guests to stick in polaroids and leave and well wishes. After the wedding if there's leftover pages we'll include our wedding and honeymoon photos, and call that a wrap on our first family album!
