Is 60 degrees too cold for an outdoor wedding?

Sunni, on September 27, 2015 at 4:39 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

FH and I will be attending a wedding next Sunday and I just found out both the ceremony and reception will be held outdoors, with no heat lamps. The forecast for Sunday is high of 65 and low of 50. The wedding starts at 4pm. Am I crazy to think that's too cold for an outdoor, semi-formal event?

Also...what would you wear? None of my cocktail dresses have sleeves and most wouldn't look good with tights.

That's going to be cold. It ended up being around 65 and windy on mine and we were shivering (we being myself and the bridesmaids). Our reception was inside, though.

I'd bring a shawl or wear a cardigan. Hopefully they'll have warmers.

Could you get a cute bolero or something to go with one of your dresses? That sounds cold to me!!

It was about that temp for my wedding yesterday, and it was chilly. Most of the bridal party were wearing groomsmen's jackets or little sweaters by the cocktail hour.

Most of my venues suggest 55 as the cut off for too cold, but I'm with you. I'd be doing above the knee workout pants underneath and a cute sweater too.

Way too cold, I wouldn't even consider going but that's just because I get cold easily and it just hurts for some reason. I cry through the winter.

When it's 60 or 65 degrees with the sun shining, it feels a lot different than 60 degrees at night. If it dips to 50 degrees at night, that's too cold for me. Look around for dressy cardigans, boleros, or wraps, but definitely have something to keep you warm..

I think that's a little chilly. I had to convert to celcius to figure out the temp lol. I'd definately get a cardigan or something to wear over your dress., or maybe even where dress pants and a nice shirt.

I think that's too cold for an outdoor reception that's not tented with heat lamps. Bring a jacket!

Yeah definitely too cold. I'm not afraid of putting a long cardigan over anything I'm wearing. I have one in every color. There are ways you can dress it up...but even if I don't look fancy, fuck it. At least I'll be warm.

We have the same thing next weekend, but the reception is indoors. I agree that I'm having a hard time figuring out what to wear to the ceremony. Probably a maxi dress with a denim jacket, even though that seems sort of informal. I don't have a fancy fall jacket, and I'm not going to buy one for one 20 minute ceremony outdoors.

Of course, a lot depends on the usual temperature. It may usually be warmer this time of year-- I live in the Bay Area, and many years ago we all *froze* when it was cold and cloudy in May-- especially the poor BMs, who had to wear specific outfits!

To your question what to wear-- could you go for a nice pantsuit? Do you have any long skirts that would be appropriate and allow tights? Otherwise, just drink heavily and leave early. Smiley sexy

Lottie, 50 degrees Fahrenheit is 10 degrees Celsius. The warmer temps, 65 degrees Fahrenheit, is 18.3 degrees Celsius. We may have different measuring systems, but we all know when it's just too cold, lol.

My brother was married outdoors in a 60 degree drizzle with no cover. It was COLD!!! I wore pants and my coat. They can't expect you to freeze.

I think 60 is the cut-off temp. I think 65 or 70 during the day, with sun can work for everybody. Any chance of rain, then no, have an indoor option ready.

I hate wearing pants, so I had to learn to love tights or stockings with most of my dresses for going out in the colder months. Even sheer black stockings would help your legs a little bit. I'd also wear a long coat or long sweater, especially if it's not sunny.

Right now is says it will be about 65 for our ceremony which is outside at 5pm in NH. It will be a little chilly but its only 20 minutes and then the reception is under a heated tent. I'm hoping people are ok with it. We also told everyone by word of mouth and on our website that it was outside and to dress a little bit warmer. Hopefully people listen.

I think if you warn people its ok. But I wouldn't be happy if the reception was that cold too.

It might depend on what part of the country you're from--for you Southern ladies I'm sure that's freezing; where I live we're wearing t-shirts and shorts when it gets that warm. Smiley smile But if it's going to be evening and you think you'll be cold, get some nude colored stockings and a pretty cardigan or pashmina scarf you can wrap around you.
