Is 6-months too early for formal invites to be sent?

Our wedding is being held 02/22/20 and we thought about sending out my wedding invites 6-months in advance (08/22/19) but now wondering if that is too early? I've read that normally it's 8-weeks in advance but our concern is that puts us sending out wedding invites right around the Christmas holiday...

Our wedding is being held 02/22/20 and we thought about sending out my wedding invites 6-months in advance (08/22/19) but now wondering if that is too early? I've read that normally it's 8-weeks in advance but our concern is that puts us sending out wedding invites right around the Christmas holiday and we all know what a terror the mail system is at that time. Additionally, more than half of our vendors put in their contracts that we HAVE to have a final guest count to them no less than 30-days prior to our wedding and we're concerned about the quick turn-around time for RSVP's.

A couple vendors suggested a 9/6/3 rule that we've been following: 9-months for STD, 6-months for invites, 3-months for RSVP's to come back. But now we're wondering if that's just them being extra lol.

    I got married January 19 and sent out invites mid October. If you send yours out right before Thanksgiving I think you should be safe.

    That's way too early - 8-10 weeks is perfect. RSVP's should be due about 2 weeks before the event. Just give yourself about a week after the RSVP date to track people down and still get numbers to your caterers by the needed date.

    If your caterer or venue or whatever says they need a final count before 2 weeks out - definitely push back.

    What did you decide to do? Honestly I'm sending out ours earlier than the traditional timeline. We are sending ours out the last week of October with a request for an RSVP by 12/06/19 (so we don't catch the holiday mail rush) and also so we can get an idea of what our cost is going to be. Honestly, I've already received 16 RSVPs via our wedding website because I included our website on our save the date back. About 60% of our guests are from out of state and I think they would know 2 months in advance if they are going to be able to attend. Also, I like to plan ahead and maybe some people are like me so won't mind RSVPing a few months before.

    Hey Leandra! We decided that we are going to send out invites out toward the beginning or middle of November so that way, like you said, we avoid the holiday mail rush. We made our RSVP date 1/11/20. That gives us 11 days to hunt down anyone and everyone who didn't RSVP.
