Is 3 speeches too much?

Valerie, on January 16, 2020 at 11:26 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
MOH (my sister) and BM (his brother) will give speeches. Would it be too much to let my brother (groomsman) give a speech during the reception? It started as a joke because he gave a pretend toast for my wedding during his speech class and apparently it was a hit. He’s a pretty funny guy so I know he has some things to roast me about and I know he’s got some nice things to say about my hubby (they have a fun relationship bc they always make fun of each other). The thing is... his brother (BM) doesn’t really know me or our relationship that well so whatever he’ll say I’m sure will be nice and sincere about his brother and giving us well wishes but I’m wondering if it won’t be as personal. Hubby made him BM out of respect bc he was best man at his brother’s wedding. I just happen to think the best speeches are ones where you can talk about/ make fun of the couple. Is it bad that I want a good laugh at my wedding?

I think it's fine. I would just ask everyone to keep it at like 3-4 minutes and you can spread them out. We had BM and MOH while 1st course was being served and then my husband's dad and my mom spoke a little later into the meal so it didn't feel so long.

I think that’s fine! We had 3 speeches at ours. My mom, best man, and then MOH. I’d ask them to keep it to 3-4 minutes... as long as it’s under 15 mins worth of toasts people won’t get too bored lol. My mom and best man’s speeches were like 4-5 mins each, and MOH kept it to 3. It was fine 🤷🏻‍♀️

3 speeches is actually standard. As long as you ask them to keep it within a time limit, it should be fine.

Sure! Maybe have the MOH/BM do theirs back to back and have bro/etc do theirs a lil later? But I think 3 is fine, especially if they are short.

As PP have stated, you can do it at the reception with a time limit. One of my FH groomsmen is going to do a speech at the rehearsal instead to keep our dinner toasts to a minimum during the reception.

I think that is fine. We had 3 speeches also and no one seemed to mind. I would just be mindful of their timing.

We had 3 at our wedding. The best man went first, then the maid of honor, then my father. Each speech was around 2-4 minutes.
