Is 2 years to far?

Lynn, on October 12, 2017 at 7:25 PM Posted in Planning 0 24

Me and my FH have decided to have our wedding in Fall of 2019. I've been looking at diy wedding decorations, centerpieces, etc. But it seems like I am getting ahead of myself. What do you think?

P.S We have only been looking and pricing. No actual buying of products/apparel.

There is no harm at looking at options especially if you're excited! I would recommend not booking quite yet as your ideas might change in two years, however if you love a vendor and know their pricing you can start saving so its easier to pay if you and FH are paying for things yourself!

    Congrats by the way!

Totally fine to look! We're having a two year engagement and we booked the venue shortly after getting engaged. Then I went a little Pinterest crazy and we didn't do anything else until we booked our photographer six months later and then waited a little longer to book other vendors. I did buy my shoes shortly after getting engaged (I fell in love and they were discontinued). Look up some two year timelines, they were a huge help for me when all the standard ones were one year or less.

Getting a head start on DIY projects is great! My fiance and I started working on centerpieces right away since we have space to store them. We want to get stuff done ASAP so that we don't get stressed out later. Also, our centerpieces are all different, so we are hoping to do about 1 a month.

Not at all! It'll be awesome too for your budget, plenty of time to save up. As you start making plans you'll be thankful you picked a date 2 years away.

We're getting married in September 2019 and I already have a venue and a few vendors. There's nothing wrong with pacing yourself over a longer period of time. Your wallet will thank you!

I just got engaged almost a month ago and we have decided to wait until 2019 also. I'm dead set on a fall wedding and I know what I want. The wait is already killing me but I'm really glad I have this time to plan and save for it... I'm sure before we know it, two years will be long gone and we'll be glad we had the time to prepare. I decided that I would create my own outline, as I am currently trying to focus on my college courses as well as a move we have coming in May next year. I know my planning time will be minimized to summer and holiday breaks so I'm going to use every ounce of time I have. Next Month we will be exploring venues and hopefully by then set our actual date. (11/16/19 is VERY tentative). I'd love to know your progress!

Mine is 2020, I've been looking at everything, planning on doing a 20's theme and have bought vases from the thrift store along with a mirror. Never too early!

Anything you book now, you may be able to lock in current pricing and avoid increases. Which may be nice.

    First off, congratulations!

I don't think it's too early at all! I've been planning since roughly 1.5 years out since deciding on a date and gathering ideas, prices, pictures, etc. I've pretty much have tried to DIY whatever I can that is within reason in terms of decor. I'm not a huge fan of real flowers so all of my centerpieces, bouquets, and corsages are fake flowers and they're all DIY (google and pinterest are great!) It never hurts to look early because you might have an idea and then not like it. I'm going to do a test run on my centerpiece idea within the next week or so to see if it looks the way I want it. And the more time you have for DIY projects, the less stressed you'll be in the weeks closer to the wedding!

We just booked our venue for May of 2019, so just a few months before you. We're starting DIY things and scoping out vendors now with the reasoning that it's easier to find deals and utilize sales (like after Christmas at Michaels - twice! yay!) with plenty of time on our side. Good luck!

We are also planning for a fall 2019 wedding and got engaged recently over the summer. We have been "browsing" but haven't bought anything yet and i personally enjoy it because we know what to budget for and have time to save up!

We booked our venue last year, 3 years in advance (mainly because it's a very popular place and books up fast and it's my dream venue so had to have it) I've bought some decorations already (especially when there's awesome sales!) I have a giant rubber maid that I'm using to store things I get in!

We have a 2.5+ year engagement and I couldn't wait to start planning. I do recommend booking your venue and any must-have vendors as soon as possible; but as for decor- your ideas may change a bit (I know mine definitely did in the past 1.5 years). So I would look around and get some ideas; work on your pinterest board - but I would hold off buying anything for at least another year or so.

I booked my venue about a 20 months ahead of my wedding. I felt like it was too soon, but when I was speaking to the lady at the venue she said the week after we paid our deposit, two other couple came in looking for the same date. Better to be safe and early!

I got engaged wwwwaaaaayyyy back in December of 2015...and now, I've got less than 6 months to go...like 5 1/2 (he he he)...

It goes by faster than you think. And, depending on where you live and how the wedding season is, the venues you are considering may book out as early as now for 2019/2020. We booked ours in March of 2016 for our 2018 date because the area is so popular for weddings. Keep that in mind as you plan.

If you considering DIY'ing a lot, start a game plan as to what you might want and get ideas. You also want to develop a budget for your wedding if you haven't already.

    Congratulations and happy planning.

We're looking at about 18 months (May 4, 2019) from now until the wedding! So far, we have only booked a venue (everything in my area is booked solid for 2018 already and didn't want to risk it)! So far it's been great -- not so many things due at once!
