Is 100 guests enough to have an awesome reception?

Kim, on June 14, 2019 at 7:01 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 41
So...my fear right now is that 100 guests may not be enough to have a fun reception. It sounds ridiculous I know. Our original guest list is in the 120s, but we have out of town guests, some people that will not bring plus ones (that I included in the count), and a few I am almost sure will not make it. So we are probably looking at 100 guests, hopefully not less than that.

Do you guys have any pictures, stories you would like to share for my peace of mind?

10 guests is enough for an awesome reception as long as they're fun people.

This is the truth! Number doesn't matter - the people matter. I can have more fun with 1 fun person than 20 boring folks!

You're right. It's just because I have this picture in my head.

My guest list is 100 but we're counting for about 75. My sister's wedding was about 65 and we had a blast. The number of people doesn't make it fun, it's who is there. Don't stress about that. You won't even be thinking about that detail once the day comes.

Oh and as for stories, that tall grey haired guy is my dad. He’s the last person I imagined on the dance floor. He was there all night long. He was the high light of the party, I think.
People were out there dancing as soon as they finished dinner, we hadn’t really opened the dance floor yet.
Good food, good music, great company and alcohol (if your having it) are all you need for a good time. Really my guests had a great time catching up with each other and enjoying the moment/event.

Thank you for your kind words. Why do brides worry about the weirdest things?

Thank you so much for the pictures! It seems more than 64 people were there, and it looks fun! It really helps when you have a visual.

Your dad looks like he was having a ball! Thank you for this. And yes, we are definitely having alcohol!

The number of people doesn’t matter. You could have 100 people who don’t know how to have fun. 😂. We had 53 people and had the best wedding ever. The resort told us they had never seen a group have so much fun. It’s all about the people and not the number.

Sorry, but this is kind of silly concern 😆 There is no “right” number of people that guarantees having fun lol. Whether it’s fun or not depends on what the people you have there are like, do they know how to have fun & also the atmosphere you provide (good music/sound, good food...).

I actually think you have more fun at smaller weddings, because most people know each other & have closer, more meaningful relationships, hence are more relaxed, and bride & groom actually get to spend time with each guest, which always makes it more fun.

The number doesn't matter. You can have an awesome party with a small group so it's all about your crowd! If your have a great group of people coming who love to dance and party, you'll have a great time.

    My guest list is 65!
My bff had 100 people and it was honestly so nice. Enough to mingle and chat, but not enough to be big and overwhelming. It's like the just right amount imo

I am in the same boat but honestly wouldn't even mind if we get down to less than 100 people for the sake of our wallets! Lol We are inviting about 115. I think that is plenty enough people and will be a fantastic time! Make sure your DJ keeps the energy up!

I know it sounds silly. I'm worrying about the weirdest and unnecessary things. It's just that in our culture, this is considered a small number.

You can have a fun reception regardless of the amount of people. It quality not quantity! We invited a little over 100 people and I am hoping for less lol. But I know regardless, everyone is going to have so much fun because all of our friends and family will be there, the DJ will be playing great music, and the drinks will be flowing. So don't sweat the small stuff. Enjoy your day!!!

Thank you! It's just that in our culture, this is considered a small number. So, it kind of worries me.
