Invites/Save the Dates mailing timeline

Reading magazines, most things say that you send Save the Dates about 6 months before, and then invites 6-8 weeks prior. What about a holiday weekend? Our ceremony is the saturday of memorial day- how soon do we send out save the dates? We also have family coming from Europe- how soon do we send their save the dates (Memorial day weekend is not a holiday for them though). And do we send invitations any earlier if it is a holiday weekend?

Thanks Smiley smile

I'm getting married the Sunday of Columbus Day weekend, I sent out my STD on March 1st (or close to it) and I figure my wedding invites will go out first week in August. I will require my RSVPs back by middle of September (although I expect stragglers).

I just got a save the date in the mail for a wedding in June 2012. If you know the date I would send out the Save the Dates now. Isn't the whole point so people can mark their calendars?

Pretty much all of our guests are out of town so we sent ours at about 9 months out. The furthest out I've seen recommended is 11 months. If you're sending out STDs sending wedding invites out early isn't really necessary. We still did ours at 8 weeks. If you send them out too early you run the risk of people just setting them aside knowing they have more time to make their decision and then you end up having to call for RSVPs.

Save the Dates for DW should go out about one year before your date. If you are having a local wedding, six months is more the standard, however with the holiday and guests travleling in - you may want to go closer to a year. anything more than that . . . well, up to you!

there have been a ton of threads on this - so you also might want to search the forums for more info. Smiley surprise)

As a planner I agree that sending the Save the Date is best at least 6 months out. I find people want to get plans made early and that includes hotel accommodations.

Holiday weddings they should go out 10 to12 months in advance. Invites should go out no late than 8 weeks ahead and about 10 weeks for a holiday wedding.
