Invites

Olivia, on March 1, 2020 at 1:06 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11
So we sent out save the dates and being the generous, can’t say no type of people we are, we gave everyone a “& guest” on the save the date envelopes. Is it completely rude to take that back for the actual wedding invitations and just write their name? I feel like I know the answer will be yes that it is completely rude, I just want to hear some opinions. I’m regretting handing out the “& guest” to people not in serious relationships. Thanks.

I think it’ll be very confusing and conflicting for your guests

Yes it would be rude. Some guests may have already asked their plus one so that they could save that date

I think guests would be confused and could take it to be rude. I would suggest reaching out to people individually prior to sending out invites and letting them know that your budget won’t permit their plus one.

Please don't do that, it's incredibly rude.

Yes, many people arrange their travel based off of the save the date, not the invite.

I would find it a bit confusing especially if a guest already planned to bring a guest-then they got the invite and they arent allowed to bring someone

At this point, yes. There's a good chance that those people will have already asked someone to come with them by the time the invites arrive. This will create confusion for everyone.

Unfortunately, yes :/ I think at this point people are expecting to be able to bring someone.

Unfortunately your generosity is coming back to haunt you now:/ You will have to honor the commitment of giving your guests a guest, or risk coming off as rude. Good luck!
