Invite wording with virtual Rsvp, no +1s

Ashley, on April 5, 2020 at 3:37 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 9
Hi, all! I was wondering how you’d go about wording your invitations if you were doing things this way: We aren’t including plus ones for single guests, and we need to make that clear in our invites. We are not including RSVP cards as we’re having them do that online. I know the website won’t let them RSVP for anyone not on the list, but I also don’t want anyone to be surprised. We want to be very clear. (We are also doing virtual Save the Dates so can’t do anything with addressing those)

Address the invitation to the person invited and don’t include “and guest.”

    Hello,
I am also doing online RSVPs. I am including an insert with my invitation directing guests to my Weddingwire website to RSVP, but including a phone number in case some guests have difficulty with this.
In terms of plus ones, I agree that the site will only allow RSVP entries for guests that you specifically added. To avoid any confusion, I would address the invites to each guest by name. If there is still room for confusion, I would add a question on your “FAQ” page on your website to address this instead of doing so on the actual invitation.

We aren’t doing RSVP cards, or I definitely would be doing that! =)

I'm doing an online only RSVP as well. I'm going to be addressing the invite envelopes by name for each person. (Doing paper invites with the website for RSVP printed) I also added this to my FAQ section - which is the page directly before the RSVP: Can I bring someone with me? A: If your invitation was addressed to you & a guest, or you & your family, then yes! Feel free to bring your favorite person/people.

I feel like it will be pretty straight forward for most of my family/friends. I've also only included +1's to couples that have been together for about 6 months prior to the wedding. Like I told my mom on the phone today: I really don't want to be paying that much for multiple people FH and I have never met. Not to mention, I love my cousins but sometimes those girls don't have the best taste in guys and that alone makes me nervous.

    Hope this helps!

I think between the online RSVP not allowing them to add extra people, and the invite having only their name on it, you should be good.

Our original RSVP card said "we've reserved ___ seats in your honor". This way there was no confusion. We also put an FAQ section on our wedding website (we used Zola), that addressed this situation.

Don't put "and guest" on the invites and be prepared to say no guests if anyone calls. The majority of your guests probably won't have any issues with this based on the website setup.
