Invitations

Dana, on September 1, 2019 at 1:22 AM Posted in Planning 0 7
Hey y'all! We're getting married May of 2020 and aren't sending out save the dates... When should I send the invitations? I want to make sure I have plenty of time to prepare, the guest count should be between 100-150.

Invitations go out 6-8 weeks before the wedding.

Agree with Caytlyn. Whether you're doing STDs of not doesn't really accelerate the invitation timeline. I'd probably go with 8 weeks. However, you can always spread the word about your date, especially to your VIPs, informally through conversations, email, text, whatever, to give them a heads up about the date. Daughter sent STDs about 7 months before the wedding, but we let out of town/country family & friends know the date as soon as they booked the venue (about 16 months in advance) through email and daughter and SIL spread the word among their friend group, so people were aware of the timing.

You can still spread the date by word of mouth. I wouldn't send them out more than 8 weeks out. People put them aside and RSVPs can change too far out.

Everyone says 8 weeks, but I sent mine out 12 weeks before the wedding because we also didn’t do STDs and have a lot of out-of-towners, and it went great. Only had a handful of people that didn’t RSVP by the due date (yesterday), most RSVPed 2-3 weeks ago which was still 7 weeks before the wedding. I’m sure it would be fine if you sent them out 10-12 weeks out.

I did not do Save the dates even though I had them.

Those that needed to know the date were informed.

    It’s a good thing that I didn’t.

Everyone that would’ve received one was not actually invited.

I sent mine out 6/15-28 (Bridal Party and immediate family), 7/12, and up to 8/9 to allow enough time for people to RSVP by 8/23 for the first set and 9/11 fr the second set.

Ours is also a 100-150 person with about 25% out of town. We didnt send STDs either, our wedding party & families knew the date. For us, our final numbers are due on 10/24, 1 month before; a venue requirement. In an attempt to minimize last minute guest stress (we hope!), we made the RSVP deadline 9/30. So then invites had to be in hand by 8/1. A destination wedding may change this timeline.
