Invitations

Ash, on October 10, 2020 at 10:22 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10
So I'm getting married on April 3rd, 2021 and I should probably send my invitations soonish, but with COVID I'm afraid that we will need to decrease our guest list which means we would be wasting money on our wedding invitations. Any suggestions on what I should do? Should I wait or do I just buy all the invitations?

I’d wait if I were you. You really dont need to send out invites until after the new year, and if you haven’t made a decision yet about cutting the list then I’d suggest ordering your invites on Black Friday/cyber Monday. They’d be a lot cheaper and then if you ended up cutting your list it wouldn’t set you back as much $$. Just my opinion! (And I understand wanting to order them early, I was the same. And then we ended up cutting the list AND changing the start time of the ceremony. So we had to re-order)

Invitations don’t go out until 6-8 weeks before the wedding. Six months is way too early even without COVID.

That makes sense. I'm not sending save the dates so that's why I didn't know what to do.

I would wait. Like previously mentioned invites don't go out until 6-8 weeks prior. Definitely keep in touch with your venue to verify the guest count allowed closer to the time.

We’re wedding twins!!! I’m getting married on 4/3/21 too! I’m not mailing ours out until January. You don’t want to get them mixed up with Xmas cards etc. We’re keeping our numbers to the original number of 80ish. We’re also having a no kids ceremony/reception.

Send out save the dates now. But invites always go out 6-8 weeks before the wedding. Any earlier and people will forget and think you are having classes of guests.

I'm not sending out save the dates, so that's why I was asking. Thanks!

You should be mailing out invitations around January 20, so people have then in hand 8 weeks ahead of time. Don't rush that. Until the recent invention of Save the dates, the few ( or many) who really needed advance notice, as well as key family and friends, were told first in person, by phone, or by letter/ email. Put off your decision as long as you can. When you know, for sure, start quickly notifying people this way. No lead time for getting them ready, and they won't get mixed with election or holiday mail peaks. If you choose email, write a notice letter, then put on one address at a time and send. A lot of people set spam filters which throw out any mass mailing by email.

This is way too soon to send the official invitations. Typically they are sent 6-8 weeks before the wedding date. Feel free to send save the dates out now, but I would wait till January to order the invitations.
