Invitations

Laura, on November 9, 2020 at 4:29 PM Posted in Planning 0 13
Growing up I dreamed about my wedding. Things have changed and evolved and all planned out for my FH and my day. The one thing that I never thought of was the invitation. I have absolutely no clue what to do. FH is no help and there are so many options. Did anyone else have the issue of drowning in a sea of invitation options with no direction? Any advice of how to weed out options?

Some people choose colors to match their theme/color scheme. For example, there's elegant, tropical, simplistic, etc. Plenty of color schemes to choose from as well. If you're looking for budget friendly, you can look up invites on Etsy and download a customizable template or even Zazzle where they can have up to 60% off site wide.

    Good Luck!

When I was looking at invitations, I would pick out 4-5 invitation options that I liked at a time and show them to my fiance to get his opinion. If he didn't like any of them, I kept looking for another 4-5 options. Once we found one we both really liked, we ordered them. Check on Etsy, there are lots of options!

Thank you! I like the idea of picking several and seeing his reaction (knowing him he won't say if he likes them so I would have to look for ques)

Start with formality. The most formal occasions, white or black tie weddings, use high rag quality paper, white or creamy. Are engraved, or embossed, not photo printed, and have only black or grey ink,, with gold or silver in the border design. No colors or pictures , plain and elegant.
The next step down general semiformal or cocktail clothes, Bridal party may wear tuxes or suits, but guests in suits, long dresses or cocktail.
Meal service less formal. Most people use modern photo printed, not engraved print, and the language is everyday, not old english, or everything including time spelled out. Colored papers with colors in design are most common. Medium grade paper. Fonts may vary, whole design may be very personal, be more lively than formal ones. Much less expensive.Casual day wear clothes, very informal meals like open buffets, barbecue, casual dishes may be paper, first names and very informal presentation, choose from light weight everyday paper, drawings, pictures, informal wording. May be very light and humorous. May be done by email, or if the time is short, by phone. ... Start with the impression you want to give, extremely formal, dressy but still quite nice, or very casual.

Thank you very much! This information is very valuable and narrows down where I need to start. Really didn't think about breaking down invitations by the card stock vs formality.

Generally, you will want to pick something that matters the color, style and formality of your wedding. For example, if you are having rustic wedding you'd want something if rustic elements like a wood background. I

I definitely weeded ones out by just going with what my wedding colors were - it helped lessen the options down.

We used zazzle for engagement party, bridal shower, save the dates, invitations, and thank yous! We did post card style as we try to be eco-friendly and aware on a daily basis. They were super cheap as well and use a postcard stamp versus regular stamps. Everyone loved the idea! 🤍

I’ve been really successful using Minted. You’re able to filter by style (e.g. traditional, simple & minimalist, etc.) and printing type (e.g. foil-pressed v. letter-pressed). You can also customize colors if none of the standard palettes appeal to you.

Go on Zazzle or Etsy and see what catches your eye.

Price them out to see which is more economical of individual pieces (invite, reply card, details/direction card plus envelopes) vs a ready made set.

I also suggest Minted or Etsy! On minted, they have foldable invites that have the invitation, details card, and rsvp card attached together. The rsvp card detaches to that your guests can send them back to you! There's so many options and customization opportunities as well!

Etsy has ton of options too! Many shops sell templates that you can download and customize yourself. When you're done, you can either print them off at home on cardstock, or upload your design to a professional company like Vistaprint!
