Invitations

So I’m trying to figure out when to order the invitations for the wedding. My photographer is giving us the save the dates so I just have to worry about the invitations. We are getting married 6/7/2020. Any advice is welcome!

You can probably order them whenever you'd like, maybe around... say November or December? When you send them is a different story, but I haven't heard of any strict guidelines as to when you can actually order them. I think I'll be ordering mine in September or October, just so I have it at home. ready to go when I'm set to send em out.Smiley heart

I agree with pp that you can order them whenever you want; I'd just be cautious about ordering them too early in case there are any minor changes. (The time of daughter's ceremony changed by about 30 minutes when we met with the venue coordinator for the tasting about 3.5 months before the wedding. It wasn't a big deal, but the new time definitely worked better with the expected time for sunset, etc. If she'd already ordered the invitations, I don't think she would have made the change -- even though it was for the best. Give yourself a little wiggle room on the fine details, if possible.) However, once all the details are truly as finalized as possible, I don't think it matters when you order. Given your timing and depending on where you'll be ordering, I do think you might be able to take advantage of great sale prices, if you consider ordering in November or possibly during Black Friday sales and right after Christmas. BUT, no sale price is a good one if you end up having to reorder. (During that time period last year, Zazzle almost constantly had 50-60% off sales.)

Most sources will suggest that you actually mail invitations about 8 weeks before the wedding, with RSVPs due 7-10 days before your first vendor deadline for numbers. Daughter's wedding was the third Saturday in January. Invitations went out Thanksgiving week (8 weeks), RSVPs were due on Christmas (3.5 weeks before the wedding), first vendor numbers were due January 4. Even "with the holidays" it worked perfectly. There are tons of posts about brides wanting to "be really organized and send them/ask for RSVPs months in advance," but people will not RSVP super early so it kind of backfires. Figure out your timeline, then be patient. In the end, it will make your life easier. Good luck! Smiley heart

PS -- many of the online companies have really quick turn around. Daughter ordered everything through Zazzle and I believe the longest she waited for a regular delivery of anything was a week. I think her invitations were here in 3-4 days.... If you're using a more traditional stationery source or doing really high-end printing, you'll need to check on their time line for ordering.

We met with our stationary company yesterday and loved her. I'm trying to use only local/small business owners for our wedding vendors instead of going with large corporations. Our vendor suggested we send our invitations in February/March for our June 27, 2020 wedding date as all of our guests will be coming from out of town. We are sending our STD's in October and adding a soft RSVP to our wedding website so we can have an accurate count for invitations. I highly suggest going with a local vendor as they are extremely knowledgeable and worth the extra investment as they can design, order and even pack/mail your invitations for you.

You can order at anytime. You generally send them 6-8 weeks before the wedding date. We ordered ours pretty early because our stationary company was running a sale during a holiday. So I would order them anytime you can save money!
