Invitations

Kelly, on August 11, 2023 at 5:58 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 13

We made the regrettable decision 18 months ago to make our own invitations with our silhouette (die cutting machine). It was so stressful! I absolutely do not recommend it unless you have to make less than 50. We scrambled all last week to finish them, but we finally mailed them last week! People have starting RSVPing and we're so excited!

Oh no! I'm starting the process with my cricut. Thankfully probably only making about 50. What kind of cardstock did you use?

I used 80lb cardstock. It had to be done in two parts and glued together because it was bigger than 12 in. Part of my problem was that I gave my fiance some of the cutting to do, but he didn't get it done. We had about 100 invitations to do though. I'll post a picture soon. My mom needs to send me a picture because I forgot to take one.

Yes please do! I would love to see pictures! I just did a trial run with 80lb cardstock and when I weeded it it kept ripping so I have to figure that out 😵‍💫

I have a silhouette, so I don't know how different it is. I did two passes each time to make sure it cut well. I used a standard tack mat but rubbed it with cloth so it was less sticky. Otherwise it tore pretty badly. The light tack was too light. I changed the blade out every 10 or so. Good luck!

There were a lot of delicate details that required a sharp blade. Otherwise it just tore. It was laborious and stressful, but I started over a year out.

The card with the belly band is upside down, but it still gets the idea across. The logo is embossed. We wanted to put it on all of the cards but ran out of time.
