Invitations...

Sarah, on August 8, 2019 at 11:00 AM Posted in Planning 0 20
My wedding is in March 28, 2020. We aren’t doing save the dates. Would it be too early to send the invitations? Most of our guests are in the US but we are inviting some family that live out of the country. We also have to have them chose the wedding meal. Is it too early or good time?

Way too early. Invitations should go out 6-8 weeks before the wedding. You could push it to 10 weeks out if you have lots of out of town guests, but I wouldn't go any earlier than that. This is what save the dates are for, to let out of town guests know to make accommodations. Would you consider at least doing save the dates for them? Not every guest needs one. You shouldn't need meal selections until 2 weeks or so before the wedding. There's no need to know 8 months in advance.

It’s way to early to send out invites. Invite should go out 6-8 weeks before the wedding. People won’t be able to rsvp accurately this far out. Have you even done a tasting yet to know what meals people should be choosing from?

I would either send save the dates or reach out to the out of town guests personally to let them know the date.

Yeah, it is way to early to send the actual invitations. If you are trying to avoid the cost of printing and sending save the dates, you could send a save the date email with information on lodging and travel. That would probably be helpful to your guests.

Thanks! Yes we have done taste testing and the menu is set. Most of my family out of town and in town know the wedding is in March. I think I will get them made and then send them later!

It's way too early. I would send an electronic save the date if you want to save on postage and stationary. If you just don't like save the dates, you may want to reach out to your out of town guests (or if that's too overwhelming, limit yourself to out of country guests) personally and let them know the date of your wedding and that they should secure accommodations early. We are sending out save the dates, but we are also reaching out to FH's family since they aren't in the States to make sure they get their flights and hotels booked well in advance.

Thanks! We have already reached out so most our fam knows our wedding is in March. I’ve made a website but haven’t shared it yet. So maybe I will!

Awesome! If they already know the date you should be good!

if you’re still nervous about people knowing the date early enough to book flights online save the dates are a good option! Paperless post is much cheaper than ordering paper saves and paying for postage!

My date is right after the holidays and I would say we have about 1/3 of our guests flying in. I was told to send mine our earlier because of the combo of having travelers as well as being close to the holidays. Our date is January 4th. We are sending out invites out September 1 and asking for RSVPs to be returned by November 1 so no ones RSVP gets lost in the holiday shuffle. Might be something to consider. Maybe you could send them out like January 2nd? That gives guests 3 months? Or maybe right at the holidays?

Is there a reason you arent doing save the dates? I think situations like these are exactly when save the dates become a lifesaver! You can warn people without actually sending out the invitation.

That works too!!! As long as people know the date I think sending them out January 1 would be plenty of time!

We have 80% out of town and country guests and we send ours 3 months before the wedding with an rsvp deadline of 8 weeks before.

We did however send out STDs. Can you do an email blast to let people know about the date in lieu of the save the dates?

Way too early. We skipped Save The Dates and sent our invitations out 9 weeks prior to the wedding.

You can do an evite, it’s free and it connects to all you contacts so you can pick who you want to send them to. You can send out digital save the dates, it’s great for saving money

I think is too early. I send mine 6 months before because it was a destination wedding. If you’re worry about those flying you can create a digital save the date and send it to everyone, nothing fancy. Include things in your website that people might need in advance and include it on the save the date. I was worry about travel too because I’m a planner but most people ended up starting the planning process 3 months before including booking hotel and flight so it was pointless. For your travelers send the invitation before the local people but only a couple of weeks before.
