Invitations that got lost in the mail, what should we have done?

Alyssa, on July 7, 2015 at 9:47 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

We sent out most of our invitations around the last week of May and the first week of June. We came to found out through casual conversation that a couple never made it to their destination, so we were able to resend. Now our RSVP date has passed and we're following up on those who haven't replied. Turns out a couple of people never even knew they were invited! And now I feel bad because we're giving them such short notice. Should we have confirmed that each individual invitation was received? We don't talk to everyone often enough to have found out casually.

Sorry this happened to you. However, THANK YOU for sharing!

I think I will send a big fat group message to announce that invites were sent. That way ppl will be looking out for them and if they don't get them, we have time to replace.

I hope everyone can make it to your big day Smiley smile

You did everything right. You didn't need to confirm with your guests--when you didn't receive their RSVP, you just needed to follow up with them. Which you did!

This is EXACTLY why I cringe whenever I see people post on here that they're not going to follow up with missing RSVPs because if someone can't bother to return a stamped envelope they're not worth it. Um, what if they never received the invitation in the first place? It happens more than you would think. So don't worry! You did everything just fine!

How many didn't make it? I'm just curious because I sent 150 invitations and they all made it to their destination. Did you make sure to weigh an invitation at the post office for correct postage? Did you confirm addresses? Those are the only things I can think of, if there was something wrong with the invitations themselves.

This happened to us! It makes me so mad!! People think we're lying and we didn't really send it. Plus the money lost.

I have this fear also. I think that when I send out invites I will follow up 2 weeks later just to make sure guests got them. I won't ask them to return the RSVP so soon, just want to verify it was received. I'd hate for someone to feel like they weren't invited or they were B list.

Sigh... I was wondering if my font on the addresses was the problem but I guess it can't be avoided!

I am very concerned about this as well. I did my best at handwritten "calligraphy" on the envelopes. Everyone received their STDs except for 2. One I forgot a stamp and the other he didnt tell me his Apartment number. lol!

I think you did everything you could! I text the ones that I couldnt imagine having my wedding without to make sure they got it... the others... not so much.

We had the same issues with some of ours! I think we ended up having to re send 7-8 invites. I am happy I started to check with people when I did so we could get more out and them not feel like they were B listed.

We had about 1/3 of those who got our STDs but not the invite. I did send an email copy of direction and the invite to those we found out did not get theirs. I know it was tacky but I was truly afraid of the second one not making it their either. FH says I should have mailed the invites out of the same post office. who knew?

I was afraid of this too- I know people who have worked at post offices and the stories I've heard!

almost everyone that was invited got at least a back up emailed invite just in case- I got my RSVPs right away with the emails and I'm not sorry i did it that way.

We followed up with a couple of people who didn't RSVP and found out that they didn't receive the invitation.

I just found this out yesterday - I followed up with a friend to see if she was coming and she told me she mailed me out the rsvp a month ago - so embarrassing... my rsvp date is August 1st, I have a feeling Im going to be following up with people who already responded, but I'll just blame it on the post office Smiley sad
