Invitations for Virtual Ceremony?

Demetra, on May 27, 2020 at 11:49 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

Hi everyone! My fiancé and I are doing our best to work around the coronavirus so that we can still get married on our original wedding date 9/4/2020. With restrictions slowly being lifted in New Jersey (we can now have gatherings of 25 people outside and 10 people inside) We found a location that will allow us to have a small, socially distant outdoor wedding ceremony with our Maid of Honor, Best Man, & immediate family members only.

We want to livestream the ceremony for those who want to watch and postpone our reception to a time that is less scary for people to travel, dance, and eat. We already sent our save the dates because a lot of our guests would have been traveling so we wanted to give proper time for accommodations.

Did anyone send invitations to people with information about how to watch the live streamed event, or are you saving them for the reception? If you did send invitations, will you be also sending them for your reception when it is time Smiley smile Let me know how you guys are working around this!

I was thinking of sending invites for the online portion and then a second invite for the later reception. That way people feel like they are in the loop and have clear instructions. This also makes it more likely that you'll get registry items for the original date rather than later. That was a consideration for me since we are moving in together for the first time and actually need some of this stuff.

    Hi Samantha!

Thanks for getting back to me! I was concerned about the guests feeling confused because of us sending the save the dates, but I agree that a round of invites for the online ceremony will help keep guests in the loop Smiley smile

My cousin just got married and had to live stream his wedding due to Covid restrictions. They sent digital invitations to go along with their digital ceremony. You can include the link to the ceremony in the invitation this way, which makes it easier for guest to access come wedding day. I know it is not ideal or "proper", but live streamed weddings are also very new to all of us!

If you went this route, you could send actual invitations with RSVP cards for your full reception at a later date.

Hi Meghan! Thanks for this information! It's so helpful to hear creative ways people are working around the coronavirus so that they can get married! Since invitations are quite expensive, I like this digital idea. Since I'm a graphic designer I could probably make something cute and save the fancy invitations for later!

I'm so glad you found a place that can do an outdoor ceremony! I'm in NJ, too. We went to get our antibody tests today, and it was the first time either of us have seen that many people in 2 months. Scary but also nice.

That said, I agree, the best bet is to do a digital invitation for this part. Just make it clear that this is the ceremony, this is for safety reasons, and you really can't wait to party in person.... when we can!

    Good luck!
