Invitations and Postcovid Mail Service!

Ada, on March 10, 2021 at 5:06 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 17
Hi everyone.....With all the insanity around mail delivery, I am concerned when to mail my invitations for an August 21st Wedding date this year, so they will arrive in time for guests to rsvp by July 31st. My caterer needs to know the final count by then. I'm so nervous about it! Should I mail them at the end of June or earlier like May 1st? Thanks!

Invitations should be mailed 6-8 weeks before your wedding, so I'd add in a buffer week and mail them around the week of June 20th

Following! I’m a June bride and was going to mail mine the first of April because I need my headcount at the end of May but I remember how long my save the dates took to get to guests just last November. We made sure to send long before the holidays to avoid holiday cards and some took as long as 3-4 weeks to arrive. So I’ve also been considering mailing them out earlier. I also know at that time I sent save the dates there were a lot of mail in ballots still coming through and Usps most likely prioritized those so idk what to expect. But it’s best to be on the safe side.

I'm sending mine the week of April 5th for my June 12th wedding! I sent out my save the dates at the end of October and some of them took forever and some of them still haven't been delivered to this day.

That's what I felt, but wasn't sure if that would be too soon! But with delayed mail services here in Illinois specifically by the post Master General, have me biting my nails.

For my March 20th wedding, we sent ours out around the 13th of January as we needed the head count by March 6th. Local family got them fast and rsvp within the week of sending them out. My other family from Florida, Maine, Maryland and Pennsylvania took about a week or longer to get them.

I’d send them mid June. We had a deadline from our venue of 3/5/21 for our 4/3/21 wedding. I put a deadline of 2/28 on the RSVPs- that gave me a week to track down the stragglers.

We sent ours at the beginning of February, and people got them like last week. Go early.

Send them no earlier than 8 weeks or else guests will forget. Have a buffer of a couple days to contact a couple days to tally your results and contact anyone who didn't reply. Also you can use an online seevice such as rsvpify.com in addition.

My invites got mailed on February 8th. All my friends in the same city (Philly, PA) got their in 2 days, my friends on the other coast (CA) got it the same week, but family members elsewhere in the same state (other parts of PA) got them over a week later. Fiancé’s stepbrother, same state, got his on the 24th! I think it depends on the local post office too and there’s no way to tell.

The mail has gotten much better now. It was bad in the fall partly because of a mix of election stuff and the holidays. My friend recently sent me a thank you card for a condolence gift (same state but further away) and I got it 2 days after she sent it. Maybe give yourself a week buffer because you always have people who never send back the RSVP and need to reach out to those who haven't sent it back (sometimes they get lost in the mail as well).

USPS has been a bit of a joke lately, but all guests that I've mailed invitations to have received them within a week. I've been sending them out in waves (as I've gotten address from FH for his people, basically) since about a week and a half ago. I took about 5 days for an invite to get from CA to NE. Hopefully that helps give you a sense of the timing you're working with! Since they would normally be mailed out 6-8 weeks before the wedding, I'd suggest adjusting that to 7-9 weeks before.

May 1st sounds way too early, but if you want to send them a little extra early , I think early June is fine. Ordinarily I’d say late June is the perfect time to send invites for a late August wedding, so a week or two early with postal concerns seems sufficient.

I would do end of april or mid april. The sooner the better. The mail these days takes forever.
