Invitations and no save the dates

Jillian, on January 19, 2017 at 8:31 AM Posted in Planning 0 16

My fiancé and I want to cut down the cost and just send out invitations and not save the dates. Has anyone done this and just sent the invitations a little earlier? We have about 250 guests and most are family and close friends so most of them will know the date anyway-we can just tell them when we see them. Thanks ladies!

Sure, it's fine. STDs have only been a thing for the last 10 years or so. Just let them know when it will be informally, if your guest list is final. Keep in mind certain relationships may change before October of next year though, so you might want to keep the list tentative.

STDs are not required. Invites are totally fine.

I don't think you even need to send the invitations any earlier, if people already know the date. You can set up a wedding website in advance.

I'd skip the STD's if you are having a short engagement. If it's a long engagement, I probably would but that's just me. STD's get lost, wedding websites aren't visited... it's a lose lose situation. We had a destination wedding so I needed the STD's which were sent out 12 months in advance. Do what you gotta do to cut costs.

We skipped STDs and splurged on the formal invites. We didn't have many OOT guests and the guest list was pretty small so most people knew of the date beforehand anyways.

I was debating on whether to still send out STD... My wedding is June 3rd. I think it would be pointless to send it out at this point.. I'm thinking I'll just send out my Invitations late March, Early April or is that to late?

Save the dates arent necessary, and can actually create more problems than they are usually worth.

STDs aren't required and I don't think you need to send invites out early.

@CallMeMrs.Smith--We're date twins! And that's exactly what I'm doing. Planning on sending out invites 8 weeks before.

STDs are useful if you have a lot of OOT guests or for DWs. If most of your guests are from the general area of the wedding, just make sure to have an informal chat with any VIPs or people who might have to travel to let them know of the dates.

We only sent STD's to a few OOT guests. I wouldn't send invitations any earlier- 6-8 weeks is plenty of time to make accommodations!

I didn't send STDs. We had a 10 month engagement and sent our invites 8 weeks before.

We didn't send out STD, but we are sending invites earlier than 8 weeks (probably 10-11 weeks) in advance. We have a lot of out of town guests though.

I didn't do STD, just did an email STD to a few out of town people- which ended up being free on paperless post since when you sign up they give you 20 free 'coins'. I'm going to try and get the invites in guests hands at 8 weeks- probable send out at 9-10 weeks.
