Either one is acceptable, I think. I had to go look and see what ours says - I put marriage, but there wasn't much of a decision process that went into that.

You're inviting them to a wedding. The marriage is the long term thing that comes next.

Marriage is both the union or joining of two people and the state of being married, so it is acceptable and quite common for invites to say marriage. So really wedding or marriage is correct.

    ETA: Webster definition:

    Definition of marriage

1 a see usage paragraph below :the state of being united as spouses in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law

b :the mutual relation of married persons :wedlock

c :the institution whereby individuals are joined in a marriage

2 :an act of marrying or the rite by which the married status is effected; especially :the wedding ceremony and attendant festivities or formalities

3 :an intimate or close union

UO here, I used "celebrate the marriage of..." because the marriage is the part I want to focus on. My guests know it's a wedding invitation, they're expecting one Smiley smile

Ours read: Bluevelvet and redvelvet invite you to share in the joy as they exchange marriage vows and begin their new life together......

    hope that helps!

For your question, invite them to your wedding. Do you really want them hanging around for your marriage for the next 50, 60 years?

We put "Somebody's getting married!!!" at the top of our invitations (quoting Muppets Take Manhattan), then had it worded that my fiance and I request the honour of their presence at our wedding.

We used marriage because I think it sounds better. Just my personal opinion
