Dedicated March 2010

invitation wording question

P, on January 15, 2010 at 5:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

So, we're going to have a small civil service at the house on a Saturday afternoon (2pm), followed by essentially a light appetizers only reception/cocktail party. We're planning on doing party platters (fruit trays, veggie trays, etc) and the wedding cake. We'll also have drinks like soft drinks, wine, and champagne for the toast.

How do I word on the invitation? "Light Reception"? "Light Appetizer Reception"? "Champagne Reception"?

Thank you!

BTW, ever since discovering this site about 2 weeks ago, i have loved reading these forums. Everyone is so friendly and helpful, it is wonderful!!!!

Is the invitation for the ceremony, too? If so, word it how you will for the ceremony & then "cocktail reception to folllow" should convey enough information.

    I love WW also!

I would word it as a cocktail party to follow. Cocktail party implies light food, not a meal. I believe champagne reception would also work. Smiley smile

"Light Refreshment Reception to follow immediatly after cermeony" and because the ceremony is at 2 and you state immediately (sp?) after, they should be thinking they're getting a full meal deal, just let your parents and bridal party know incase a guest asks if there will be food. Are you making a wedding website? Perhaps you canmake a note on there saying: "Following the ceremony, we will be have light refreshments, cocktails and cake. So it might be a good idea to eat a lighter lunch"

Well ideally you would have a separate card with the reception info. You could include something like:

Hors d'oeuvres Reception and Dance immediately following the ceremony

Will there be dancing at the recept? Something like this would be nice:

"Please join us for champagne, cake, and dancing immediately to follow ceremony"

or: "Cake and Champagne reception to follow"

No need to put other beverages, they will assume other drinks will be there Smiley smile

Sorry for the late reply - I wasn't online over the weekend. And much thanks to all of you for the great recommendations! I think we're going with "Cake & Champagne reception following" on the invitation and we'll still do the other light snacks but at least folks will not arrive assuming there'll be lunch.
